Performing E-bookness : Remediation and Metamediality in the Ebook Edition of Mark Z. Danielewski's The Fifty Year Sword
Mark. Z Danielewski is known for his experiments with the aesthetics of print in works such as House of Leaves and The Familiar. The chapter examines what happens when the experimental book object is digitalized, focusing on the enhanced e-book version of Danielewski’s The Fifty Year Sword. Drawing on theories on remediation (Bolter and Grusin), bookishness (Pressman, Hayles) and digital materiali

In Vivo and In Vitro Pro-Fibrotic Response of Lung-Resident Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
Lung-resident mesenchymal stem cells (LR-MSC) are thought to participate in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) by differentiating into myofibroblasts. On the other hand, LR-MSC in IPF patients present senescence-related features. It is unclear how they respond to a profibrotic environment. Here, we investigated the profibrotic response of LR-MSC isolated from IPF and control (CON) patients. LR-MS
Graph Colouring Is Hard on Average for Polynomial Calculus and Nullstellensatz
We prove that polynomial calculus (and hence also Nullstellensatz) over any field requires linear degree to refute that sparse random regular graphs, as well as sparse Erdős-Rényi random graphs, are 3-colourable.
Clique Is Hard on Average for Unary Sherali-Adams
We prove that unary Sherali-Adams requires proofs of size nΩ(d) to rule out the existence of an nΘ(1)-clique in Erdős-Rényi random graphs whose maximum clique is of size d ≤ 2 log n. This lower bound is tight up to the multiplicative constant in the exponent. We obtain this result by introducing a technique inspired by pseudo-calibration which may be of independent interest. The technique involves
BIOMARKERS IN CANCER DETECTION AND MONITORING OF THERAPEUTICS : Discovery and Technologies: Volume 1
Biomarkers in Cancer Detection and Monitoring of Therapeutics, Volume One, Discovery and Technologies discusses how molecular biomarkers are used to determine predisposition, facilitate detection, improve treatment and offer prevention guidelines for different cancer types. This first volume in the series focuses on techniques and approaches recently developed to assist in the decision of which bi
Dwell time delays for commuter trains : An analysis of the influence of passengers on dwell time delays
The thesis presented here delves into why dwell time delays for commuter trains occur, with a specific focus on the impact of boarding and alighting passengers. The overarching aim is to develop knowledge of how time delays arise to identify and describe potential ways in which dwell time delays can be reduced. In addition to this, a secondary aim is to identify how dwell times can be studied on a
Scoping article. Research frontiers on the governance of the Sustainable Development Goals
A recent meta-analysis on the political impact of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has shown that these global goals are moving political processes forward only incrementally, with much variation across countries, sectors and governance levels. Consequently, the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development remains uncertain. Against this backdrop, this article explores where

Resilience to economic shrinking: reinterpreting the Asian economic miracle in a comparative perspective, 1964–2018
The successful economic performance of Pacific Asia is often held as a source of inspiration for aspiring catching-up countries. Notwithstanding, recent literature suggests that a key to the understanding of successful long-term economic performance lies not only in the ability to generate economic growth, but in limiting incidences of economic shrinking. Such analyses to explain the Asian economiThe successful economic performance of Pacific Asia is often held as a source of inspiration for aspiring catching-up countries. Early Infant Feeding Practices among Women Engaged in Paid Work in Africa : A Systematic Scoping Review
Around the world, paid work without appropriate structural support is a key barrier to optimal breastfeeding practices. To better protect, promote, and support optimal breastfeeding practices among working women in Africa, this scoping review sought to understand how paid work influences infant feeding practices in the first 6 mo of life and what support women need to manage work and optimal infan
Mobile text messaging intervention to improve antiretroviral treatment adherence among adolescents living with HIV in Ethiopia
Adherence to antiretroviral therapy is a global problem among adolescents living with human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV), and it is associated with treatment failure and the development of viral resistance. One of the most significant barriers to treatment adherence among adolescents is forgetting to take drugs as prescribed. One of the key strategies recommended to improve this problem is the u
