What can we learn from fiction? In this article, I discuss this question from an ethnographic point of view. With the two notions intertextuality and the foreign as a starting point, I show how an idyllic view of Sweden affects two students, Hanna and Åsa, studying Swedish as a foreign language as part of their studies in Scandinavistics.
