A DSL for Composing IoT Systems

We believe that enabling services to collaborate, even if they were not designed to work together, will be important for the success of the Internet of Things (IoT). To support this we have designed a domain specific language (DSL) for service composition with the focus on mobile and IoT systems. We demonstrate this DSL by building an example system that helps a birdwatcher spy on the birds in her

A 4.3-mW mm-Wave Divide-by-Two Circuit with 30% Locking Range in 28-nm FD-SOI CMOS

A mm-wave divide-by-two circuit with high injection efficiency, implemented in a 28-nm fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator (FD-SOI) CMOS process is demonstrated stand-alone, as well as using an on-chip voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) as the input signal source. Measurements show that the divider has a 30.1 % tuning range centered at an output frequency of 24 GHz, at an input signal power of -1A mm-wave divide-by-two circuit with high injection efficiency, implemented in a 28-nm fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator (FD-SOI) CMOS process is demonstrated stand-alone, as well as using an on-chip voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) as the input signal source. Distribution and evaluation of sense of coherence among older immigrants before and after a health promotion intervention – results from the RCT study promoting aging migrants’ capability

Background: The migration process can be a threat to a person’s sense of coherence (SOC) and to their ability to experience life as comprehensible, manageable, and meaningful. Seen from a salutogenic perspective, this may have a negative impact on the experience of health. Purpose: We describe the distribution of SOC and its components among older persons with an immigrant background now aging in

The caregiving phenomenon and caregiver participation in dementia

Background: Dementia presents barriers to the collaboration between individuals and the healthcare system. Caregivers perform multiple functions helping patients with basic and instrumental activities but also communicating and mediating the dyads’ needs within the broader social group. Interventions focusing on caregivers show that caregiver burden can be reduced, improving patient outcomes in a

Maternal dietary supplement use and development of islet autoimmunity in the offspring : TEDDY study

Objective: We investigated the association between maternal use of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids (n-3 FAs) supplements during pregnancy and risk of islet autoimmunity (IA) in the offspring. Methods: The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY) Study is prospectively following 8676 children with increased genetic risk for type 1 diabetes in Finland, Germany, Sweden, and the U

Study shear behavior for stud-groove connector in timber-concrete composite structure

Timber-concrete composite structures (TCCs) are widely gaining interest in Europe and America, because of its high strength and low energy-consumption structure. The key design point of timber-concrete composite structures are to ensure the reliability of the shear connectors. The objective of this paper was to predict structural response with finite element (FE) analysis and provide shear propert

An agent-based simulation model for assessment of prehospital triage policies concerning destination of stroke patients

Stroke is a life threatening medical condition that is caused either by a blood clot or a bleeding inside the brain. It is generally agreed that immediate treatment of stroke patients is crucial for their ability to recover; however, before treatment can be initiated, the stroke patient has to be diagnosed using, for example, a computed tomography scan of the brain. This, in turn, requires that th

The TRE3 research project : A hybrid timber-frame wall system for emergency housing facilities

The TRE3 research project focuses on the development of a new and innovative timber frame wall modulus for emergency housing facilities. The wall modulus, in this paper referred to as Hybrid Timber Frame (HTF) wall system, is an evolution of the traditional Light-Frame Timber (LFT) structural systems and combines the advantages and some peculiar aspects of lightweight structures to the potentialit

”Simple Soldiers?” : Blurring the Distinction between Compulsion and Commitment among Rwandan Rebels in the Eastern Congo

Media descriptions of the conflicts in the Eastern Congo usually depict violent events as being systematic attacks by rebels and militias (perpetrators) on the civilian population (victims). While much attention has been given to the victims of such violence, less effort has been made to understand the perspectives and underlying motives for violence of those who are actively engaged in fighting t

Stakeholder Engagement Manual

This report been prepared as a deliverable for work package 2 of QuInnE – ‘Quality of Jobs and Innovation Generated Employment Outcomes’. This is an interdisciplinary research project investigating how job quality and innovation mutually impact on each other and the effects that this interaction has on job creation and the quality of new jobs. A key premise of the project is that for its findings

Optimal placement of mobile stroke units considering the perspectives of equality and efficiency

It is widely known that the time to treatment is vital for patients who suffer from a stroke. Therefore, in different places in the world, the value of acquiring mobile stroke units has been identified. A mobile stroke unit is a specially developed ambulance for stroke treatment, which has special equipment and trained personnel who can perform intravenous stroke treatment (thrombolysis). It is cl
