In the Presence of Great Men : The German National Portrait Gallery 1913-1933

In his “Dialogue about the Art of Portraiture” (1906), Viennese Art Historian Julius von Schlosser made the following critical observation of the behaviour of visitors in art museums:They [the public] are not interested in the portrait as an expression or disclosure of an artistic personality, but rather the actual human being, one can say, looming behind it, who is known to them in a very particu

Anti-ApoA-I IgG antibodies are not associated with carotid artery disease progression and first-time cardiovascular events in middle-aged individuals

Objective: IgG antibodies against apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I) have been found to be elevated in subjects from the general population with clinically manifest cardiovascular disease and in myocardial infarction patients with an adverse prognosis. Resounding Love for the Household of the Prophet : Sound and Mediation among Shi’i Muslims in Turkey

This thesis is a study of Twelver Shi’a Islam in the context of Azeri-Turkish Muslims living in the Anatolia-Caucasus borderlands of Northeastern Turkey. Taking the sonic as the central focus and field of enquiry I listen to the ways that sound mediates between bodies, both somatic and social, and the divine in the ritual and quotidian lives of Shi’i practitioners.

Pseudo script in Gebel el Silsila : preliminary results of the epigraphic survey 2012

The recently increased scholarly interest in pseudo script has opened a somewhat new avenue within traditional Egyptological studies, offering a deeper insight into marking systems which traditionally are not included within the boundaries of established written languages and/or iconographical representation. Thus, in addition to studying the rich and well preserved demotic and Greek inscriptions

Monuments Cast Shadows : Remembering and Forgetting the ‘Dead Survivors’ of Nazi Persecution in Swedish Cemeteries

In July 2020, two Holocaust memorials disappeared from a Jewish cemetery in Stockholm where Holocaust survivors who died soon after coming to Sweden for medical treatment in 1945 are buried. Though it occurred in the midst of both the global #TakeItDown movement and the Swedish government’s plans to establish a Holocaust museum in Sweden, this removal garnered no media attention or public outcry.
