Identifying Cell Reprogramming Roadblocks by Modelling Induced Pluripotency with Boolean Networks and Dynamical Systems

Det finns en väldigt spektakulär typ av cell -- så kallade stamceller -- vars specifika syfte är att omvandlasThe generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from differentiated cells is a process of great scientific interest due to the medical potential of such cells. This process (called 'reprogramming' of cells) is however notoriously inefficient and still not very well understood. Therefore studies that can help us understand the interactions and mechanisms governing the reprogramming p

Naturvårdsverkets paradoxala förvaltning - en konsument utan ansvar för det gemensamma

Governance and ideology have significant influence on how problems and policies are conceptualized. This conceptualization affects the way in which political subjects are formed and how individuals regard themselves. In this paper we approach environmental policy from a post-structuralist stance. Our ambition is to demonstrate a paradoxical relationship between the current consumer oriented repres

Intervention Inevitable - EU Law's VAR Check on the Autonomy of Sports Governing Bodies

This thesis investigates the evolving legal status of Sports Governing Bod-ies (SGBs) like UEFA and FIFA under EU law. It specifically questions whether their regulatory frameworks and practices align with EU competi-tion law and free movement principles. The research heavily relies on the analysis of recent pivotal court decisions, including the December Rulings and Diarra. The thesis begins by

Coupled electron-nuclear dynamics in resonant 1σ→2π x-ray Raman scattering of CO molecules

We present a detailed experimental-theoretical analysis of O K-edge resonant 1σ-2π inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) from carbon monoxide with unprecedented energy resolution. We employ high-level ab initio calculations to compute the potential energy curves of the states involved in the RIXS process and simulate the measured RIXS spectra using the wave-packet-propagation formalism, including Coul

Vibrational resonant inelastic X-ray scattering in liquid acetic acid : a ruler for molecular chain lengths

Quenching of vibrational excitations in resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra of liquid acetic acid is observed. At the oxygen core resonance associated with localized excitations at the O–H bond, the spectra lack the typical progression of vibrational excitations observed in RIXS spectra of comparable systems. We interpret this phenomenon as due to strong rehybridization of the unocc

What Harini says about the Master' in Service Management, Retailing and Consumption

Harini from Sri LankaAbout the programme and the teaching style Why did you choose this programme? Why in Sweden?  "I wanted to study in Europe for some time. When considering my budget and best options, like the places where I can get the most academic benefits, I found Sweden as my best choice. So, I searched for many master programmes that align with my Bachelor's in Business Management. I foun

Modified variational bayes EM estimation of hidden markov tree model of cell lineages

Motivation: Human pluripotent stem cell lines persist in culture as a heterogeneous population of SSEA3 positive and SSEA3 negative cells. Tracking individual stem cells in real time can elucidate the kinetics of cells switching between the SSEA3 positive and negative substates. However, identifying a cell's substate at all time points within a cell lineage tree is technically difficult. Results:

Management of RVAD Thrombosis in Biventricular HVAD Supported Patients : Case Series

Patients with biventricular assist devices (BIVAD) are severely critically ill compared with patients who receive left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support alone and portend a significant risk for greater adverse events including pump thrombosis (PT). Current approaches to treat PT are limited to LVAD with variable outcomes depending on the management strategy implemented. Moreover the managem

Strategic Decisions : Behavioral Differences Between CEOs and Others

Differences in strategic decision making between CEOs and other people are interesting since CEOs make important economic decisions and impact values and norms in society. Our study combines a large stratified random sample of 199 CEOs of medium-size firms with a carefully selected control group of 200 comparable people. All subjects participated in three different incentivized strategic games — P

Nuclear effects in Drell-Yan pair production in high-energy pA collisions

The Drell-Yan (DY) process of dilepton pair production off nuclei is not affected by final state interactions, energy loss, or absorption. A detailed phenomenological study of this process is thus convenient for investigation of the onset of initial-state effects in proton-nucleus (pA) collisions. In this paper, we present a comprehensive analysis of the DY process in pA interactions at RHIC and L

Evaluating the Usefulness of Retesting for Beta-Lactam Allergy in Children.

Many children with adverse reactions to beta-lactams are labelled as allergic without performing an allergy study to confirm it. In this retrospective study of 10 years, we have detected only 3.3% positive cases. Although International Guidelines recommend a second allergy work-up in patients with a negative study, we found from our results a low profitability of retesting.

On the Enzymatic Activation of NADH

Atomic (1 Å) resolution x-ray structures of horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase in complex with NADH revealed the formation of an adduct in the active site between a metal-bound water and NADH. Furthermore, a pronounced distortion of the pyridine ring of NADH was observed. A series of quantum chemical calculations on the water-nicotinamide adduct showed that the puckering of the pyridine ring in the

Stability of the Nyström Method for the Sherman–Lauricella Equation

The stability of the Nyström method for the Sherman–Lauricella equation on piecewise smooth closed simple contour $\Gamma$ is studied. It is shown that in the space $L_2$ the method is stable if and only if certain operators associated with the corner points of $\Gamma$ are invertible. If $\Gamma$ does not have corner points, the method is always stable. Numerical experiments show the transformati

Similar response in male and female B10.RIII mice in a murine model of allergic airway inflammation.

BACKGROUND: Several reports have been published on the gender differences associated with allergies in mice. GOAL: In the present study we investigate the influence of gender on allergy response using a strain of mice, B10.RIII, which is commonly used in the collagen-induced arthritis murine model. METHODS: Both male and female B10.RIII young mice were immunized with OVA and challenged four times

Network Effects, Cooperation and Entrepreneurial Innovation in China

The rapid rise of an innovative private manufacturing economy in China challenges standard economic explanations of growth, which typically assume the existence of well-defined formal institutions such as property rights and company laws safeguarding investor and creditor interests. We highlight the social structure of cooperation that enables innovative activity in private manufacturing firms whe

Staples, Institutions and Growth. Competitiveness of Guatemalan Exports 1524-1945

Popular Abstract in Swedish Avhandlingen analyserar Guatemalas råvaruexport under perioden 1524-1945.In the integrated institutional-staples-‘vent for surplus’ approach, the opening of trade occurs because of initial demand. Once demand is determined, competitiveness is a function of transportation costs, entrepreneurship, capital, land and labour costs, as well as the role played by the State. When all these factors promote competitiveness within an institutional framework that decreased transac
