The Art of Supervision: Interdisciplinary perspectives on doctoral supervision

ASG 2025-2026 What if PhD supervision could be more creative – and more human? Supervising can be so much more than merely a hierarchical academic duty. It can be about nurturing resilience, independence, and innovation. But how do we support PhD students through uncertainty, power dynamics, and vulnerability? Supervisors from across disciplines want to explore exactly this, with help from inspira

Themes 2025-2026

Themes consist of researchers from different disciplines at Lund University. They work together one full day a week here at the institute. Each group decides on how to explore the common research problem. Members are expected to be active, open and curious... and prepared to challenge both their own ideas and perspectives as well as the common questions. How do we apply for a Theme?Previous Themes

Let’s Talk about Swedish Forests: From Polarisation to Sustainable Transition

THEME 2025-2026 Swedish forestry stands at a crossroad. While intensive forest management supports a strong export industry, growing concerns are being raised about biodiversity loss, sustainability, and compliance with environmental objectives. These conflicting views have led to increased polarisation – rooted not only in policy differences, but in the language and emotions shaping public and po

The Alumni Network

The alumni network exists for all former members of Themes. It was formalised in 2024 when we wanted to create opportunities exclusive to Lund University researchers with experience of working at the Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies. In a way, the alumni network has of course "always" existed, since 2011 anyway. Former members have been important drivers in our development and we rely on t
