Determinants of dividend policy

Dividend is a much-debated subject and has been compared to a puzzle with no sole solution to explain why firms pay dividend. Many academics have tried to determine what company variables determines a firm’s dividend policy. These studies have provided different explanatory variables to explain why firms pay dividends. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to fill in a piece of the dividen

Hantering av returlass vid beläggningsarbeten

We live in a time where there is an increasing focus on the environment, in terms of classification of vehicle emission standards and environmental zones. Along with this and the fierce market competition that exists, it is odd that a greater effort has not been made in making material-transport more effective by renewing the tarmac on our road-network. The purpose of this report is to show the sa

Optimizing the sealing of tubular heating elements

Tubular heating elements, produced by Backer AB are today commonly used, serving as systems for intelligent heating in automotive, medical and household industries. Tubular heating element consists of a mantle, resistance wire, electrical insulation (magnesium oxide) and a sealing. When active, an electric current transfers heat from the resistance wire of the heating element to the surroundings w

Leaving Already? The Swedish Unemployment Insurance as a Pathway to Retirement

This paper studies whether Swedish workers use the unemployment insurance (UI) system as a pathway to retirement. We use longitudinal register data consisting of weekly UI benefit payments for the period 1999 to 2015. In Sweden, individuals are eligible for UI benefits for a maximum of 427 days. This creates an artificial benefit threshold at 427 days prior to the official retirement age. We use a

Scanning probe microscopy with gallium nitride nanowires

In scanning probe microscopy the properties of the tip is crucial in determining which information that can be obtained from the resulting images and spectroscopy. Ordinarily metal tips are used for scanning, however by using semiconducting nanowires as tips one would have very well defined probes with more advanced possibilities for spectroscopic measurements. However, currently creating such hig

Development of a CBM based service indicator for UFD replacements - An introductory study

Kronisk njursjukdom beskriver ett tillstånd av progressivt förlorad njurfunDialysis is a life-sustaining treatment for many people around the world. In or- der to meet the high demands on the dialysis machines, replaceable parts must be exchanged in proper time. Condition based maintenance (CBM) bases its service decisions on the actual health status of the component. The goal of this master’s thesis was to develop an algorithm based on machine learning, constituting the

SubKluster: Novel method to bin scaffolds from cereal genomes into subgenomes using substring frequency analysis

The genome of the Belinda variety of the hexaploid oat (Avena sativa) has recently been sequenced and assembled. This project aims to improve the assembly by clustering the thousands of scaffolds into their three ancestral subgenomes using Principle Component Analysis (PCA) of kmer and repeat-element frequencies. The method was developed using a chromosome level assembly of hexaploid Wheat (Tritiu

Non-Invasive Delineation of BCC Tumors using Patient-Specific Neural Networks and Photoacoustic Imaging

Bland individer med ljusare hy är basalcellscancer (BCC) In this thesis we investigate the possibility of delineating basal cell carcinoma using photoacoustic imaging and patient-specific neural networks. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of cancer in lighter-skinned individuals and the current methods for determining the extent of the tumor are invasive and time-consuming. Photoacoustic imaging allows for detailed subsurface imaging at multi

Building the Malmö Breast Imaging Database for Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence

Technology development pushes us to find new ways of working, also in breast screening. Breast screening has been organized in the same manner since the 1980's, apart from the switch from analogue to digital mammography (DM) in late 1990's, which was a huge practical leap forward. In Sweden and many northern European countries double-reading is practiced, where two breast radiologists independentl

Akane Ohashi

Postdoctoral fellow I am a Japanese breast radiologist specializing in breast MRI. My research focuses on advanced MRI techniques (ultrafast dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI) for breast cancer diagnosis at Kyoto University. I investigated the potential of the diagnostic techniques. At Lund University, I focus on MRI-based surveillance for women at increased risk of breast cancer, working closely with
