‘Now we are on the same page’ - experiences of foster parents and social workers participating in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) training

BackgroundAchieving safe and stable placements is a key mission for the foster care system. Foster parents and social workers are part of a caregiving network with responsibility for the child and their wellbeing. Emotionally dysregulated children's behaviors may pose a challenge to the caregiving system. Trauma-informed care (TIC) interventions aim at enhancing caregivers' understanding of such b

Thromboinflammatory challenges in stroke pathophysiology

Despite years of encouraging translational research, ischemic stroke still remains as one of the highest unmet medical needs nowadays, causing a tremendous burden to health care systems worldwide. Following an ischemic insult, a complex signaling pathway emerges leading to highly interconnected thrombotic as well as neuroinflammatory signatures, the so-called thromboinflammatory cascade. Here, we

The potential energy surfaces of odd-mass Tl, Au, Ir and Re isotones

The total potential energy surfaces of several thallium, gold, iridium and rhenium odd-mass isotones are calculated microscopically as functions of the quadrupole deformation epsilon 2, when the odd protons occupy definite orbitals. The nuclear shapes and the static equilibrium deformations of these nuclei are deduced from the results of these calculations for the proton orbitals nearest to the Fe

Real-World Applications of Anomaly Detection : Detecting the Unexpected Through Distributional Modelling

In many machine learning tasks, the premise is designed around predetermined targets and clear expectations of model behaviour. In such cases, there is a direct definition of the optimal mappings between inputs and outputs, which can be learned given sufficiently sized datasets and models. However, in many real-world scenarios, tasks are often not as well-posed and instead defined around detecting

Nuclear core-quasiparticle coupling

Relations between different core-particle coupling models based on the Bohr Hamiltonian are discussed, and in particular the γ-unstable and rigid 30° triaxial cores are compared quantitatively. A new formulation is developed employing a rigid triaxial rotor core and the strong-coupling basis. Within the limitations imposed by this model core, it is equally applicable in the limits of small and ext

Backbends at very high spins in 166Yb

We introduce a method which makes possible to consider individual rotational bands in the high-spin region where pairing is unimportant. For each band, an independent energy minimisation with respect to quadrupole and hexadecapole deformation is performed. Bandcrossings at and above the yrast line are discussed in the light of recent experimental results.

The breaking of intrinsic reflection symmetry in nuclear ground states

Negative-parity excited states of doubly even nuclei have earlier been attributed to vibrational excitations. This paper shows that an interpretation starting from a reflection asymmetric intrinsic state is more appropriate for certain nuclei in the radium region. Theoretical evidence for stable octupole deformation comes from a deformed shell-model calculation in which we use a single-particle po

The particle-asymmetric rotor descriptions of 193-199Au (positive parity states)

A detailed analysis of the positive parity levels in odd gold isotopes is carried out with an extended version of the Hecht and Satchler model (1962). A satisfactory description of 193-199Au positive parity levels and their electromagnetic properties is obtained by coupling several Nilsson particle configurations to an asymmetric rotor.

The particle asymmetric rotor descriptions of187-193Ir positive parity states

A detailed analysis of the positive parity levels in odd iridium isotopes is carried out with an extended version of the Hecht and Satchler model. A satisfactory description of187-193Ir positive parity states and their electromagnetic properties is obtained by coupling several Nilsson particle configurations to an asymmetric rotor.

Opinion Formation and Political Polarization

·Public opinion is essential for democratic societies, but social media changes how opinion is formed. ·Affective polarization – the phenomenon that individuals develop strong emotional attachments to their own political group and strong dislike and bias toward political outgroups – is growing in many democratic societies. ·Affective polarization may make individuals more susceptible to belie

Overview of surgical training and assessment of surgical skills : a narrative review

Objectives: To assess the existence of international, scientifically validated methods for manual surgical skills training and assessment. The aim was to create a descriptive chronological summary of the existing evidence and conclusions in the included articles. Methods: PubMed and Scopus were searched twice for reviews published between 1997 and October 2023 and between 1997 and January 2024. Th

Parents’ perceptions of sleep problems in children with ADHD when using weighted blankets

Background: Parents’ perceptions of children’s sleep problems when using a weighted blanket could enhance the understanding of challenges faced by families with ADHD and sleep problems. This is in alignment with a client-centred approach. Acknowledging, what parents perceive as a problem in a family context. Aim: To explore changes in parents’ perceptions of their children’s sleep problems before

Decoding urbanization trade-offs in Shenzhen, China : a PLUS-InVEST-PLES framework for balancing carbon dynamics, ecological functionality, and land use intensification

Urbanization in coastal megacities leads to trade-offs between development and ecology, degrading carbon sinks and disrupting spatial-functional balance. Current models often fail to integrate land use, carbon dynamics, and ecological zoning. This study created a system that brings together Patch-generating Land Use Simulation (PLUS), Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs (InVE

Agent-Based Modeling of Urban Residential Electricity Demand Incorporating EV Charging Behavior

By 2050, electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to be 40% of all cars on the road1. In some countries like Norway, more than 90% of the new cars sold are electric2. This rise in EVs presents challenges to the current electricity infrastructure to meet this rapid increase in electricity demand. In this study, we simulate urban residential electricity demand using an agent-based model to investigate t

Economic Impact of Severe Early-Onset Foetal Growth Restriction : A Multicentre Prospective Cohort Study

Objective: Foetal growth restriction (FGR) affects 10% of pregnancies, contributing to 30% of stillbirths. Current management of early-onset FGR (< 32 + 0 weeks' gestation) delivers the foetus before stillbirth or irreversible organ damage. The resulting preterm births create additional risks independent of FGR. We determined the economic cost associated with severe early-onset FGR. Design: Econom
