Defective secretion of islet hormones in chromogranin-B deficient mice.
Granins are major constituents of dense-core secretory granules in neuroendocrine cells, but their function is still a matter of debate. Work in cell lines has suggested that the most abundant and ubiquitously expressed granins, chromogranin A and B (CgA and CgB), are involved in granulogenesis and protein sorting. Here we report the generation and characterization of mice lacking chromogranin B (

A comparison of different purification methods of aggrecan fragments from human articular cartilage and synovial fluid.
In the study of aggrecan fragmentation several methods to extract and purify aggrecan from cartilage and synovial fluid (SF) are used. This work compares and evaluates the effectiveness for purification of aggrecan of the most commonly used methods by the ratio of sulfated glycosaminoglycan (sGAG) to protein and by fragment analysis by Western blot. A novel method for purification of aggrecan frag

Preclinical evaluation of (111)In-DTPA-INCA-X anti-Ku70/Ku80 monoclonal antibody in prostate cancer.
The aim of this investigation was to assess the Ku70/Ku80 complex as a potential target for antibody imaging of prostate cancer. We evaluated the in vivo and ex vivo tumor targeting and biodistribution of the (111)In-labeled human internalizing antibody, INCA-X ((111)In-DTPA-INCA-X antibody), in NMRI-nude mice bearing human PC-3, PC-3M-Lu2 or DU145 xenografts. DTPA-conjugated, non-labeled antibody
Kort telomerlängd markör för tidigt vaskulärt åldrande
Age is the most important risk factor known for cardiovascular disease manifestations. However, the biological ageing of an individual may be substantially different from the chronological age in what has been called “differential ageing”. This process can be evaluated by arterial stiffness (pulse wave velocity), and the marker of telomere length and by levels of telomerase enzymatic activity. Sev

Antioxidant and photoprotective activity of secondary metabolites isolated from lichens.
Seven mols. isolated from lichen species were tested as antioxidants and photoprotectors of UV-B (280-315 nm.) radiation. Perlatolic acid was the best of these seven mols. The decarboxythamnolic, usnic and usnic acid deriv. showed activity as photoprotectors. Finally, thamnolic acid showed good scavenging activity.

Arsenic metabolism is influenced by polymorphisms in genes involved in one-carbon metabolism and reduction reactions.
OBJECTIVES: The susceptibility to arsenic (As)-induced diseases differs greatly between individuals, probably to a large extent due to genetic differences in arsenic metabolism. The aim for this study was to identify genetic variants affecting arsenic metabolism. METHODS: We evaluated the association between urinary metabolite pattern and polymorphisms in three gene-groups related to arsenic metab
Othering Processes in Feminist Teaching : A case study of an adult educational institution
Taking its starting point from a critical dialogue with feminist and postcolonial theory, this dissertation explores processes of othering in a feminist adult educational institution, Women’s Room, in Sweden. Women’s Room is a women-only school and half of the student body has a migrant background. The project is an ethnographic study consisting of nine months of participant observations and inter

Insulin secretion is highly sensitive to desorption of plasma membrane cholesterol.
Cholesterol-rich clusters of SNARE (soluble NSF attachment protein receptor) proteins have been implicated as being important for exocytosis. Here we demonstrate the significance of cholesterol for normal biphasic insulin secretion in mouse beta cells by removal of cholesterol from the plasma membrane using methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MBCD). Maximal inhibition of insulin secretion in static incubati
