Arbitrary unitarily invariant random matrix ensembles and supersymmetry

We generalize the supersymmetry method in random matrix theory to ensembles which are unitarily invariant, but otherwise arbitrary. Our exact approach extends a previous contribution in which we constructed a supersymmetric representation for the class of norm-dependent random matrix ensembles. Here, we derive a supersymmetric formulation under very general circumstances. A reduced probability den

Synthesis and characterization of poly(ethylene oxide-co-ethylene carbonate) macromonomers and their use in the preparation of crosslinked polymer electrolytes

Methacrylate-functionalized poly(ethylene oxide-co-ethylene carbonate) macromonomers were prepared in two steps by the anionic ring-opening polymerization of ethylene carbonate at 180 °C, with potassium methoxide as the initiator, followed by the reaction of the terminal hydroxyl groups of the polymers with methacryloyl chloride. The molecular weight of the polymer went through a maximum after app

The C-terminus of dUTPase: observation on flexibility using NMR

The dynamics of the C-terminus of the dUTPases from Escherichia coli and equine infectious anaemia virus (EIAV) were studied by 1H-15N nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The two enzymes differ with regard to flexibility in the backbone of the 15 most C-terminal amino acid residues, some of which are conserved and essential for enzymic activity. In the bacterial enzyme, the residues closest t

Increased expression of Ki-67 in mantle cell lymphoma is associated with de-regulation of several cell cycle regulatory components, as identified by global gene expression analysis

Background and Objectives. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is an aggressive disease. Patients with this malignancy have a median survival of 3 years. To better understand disease progression, which is characterized by increased proliferation, we analyzed the gene expression of MCL with different proliferative indices, as determined by immunohistochemical staining for Ki-67. Furthermore, primary and rel

Extending the Unambiguous Velocity Range Using Multiple Carrier Frequencies

Typically, velocity estimators based on the estimation of the Doppler shift will suffer from a limited unambiguous velocity range. Proposed are two novel multiple carrier based velocity estimators extending the velocity range above the Nyquist velocity limit. Numerical simulations indicate that the proposed estimators offer improved estimation performance compared to other existing techniques.

HUMAN ASPARTYLGLUCOSAMINIDASE - A BIOCHEMICAL AND IMMUNOCYTOCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE ENZYME IN NORMAL AND ASPARTYLGLUCOSAMINURIA FIBROBLASTS

Aspartylglucosaminidase (AGA, EC 3.5.1.26) is an essential enzyme in the degradation of asparagine-linked glycoproteins. In man, deficient activity of this enzyme leads to aspartylglucosaminuria (AGU), a recessively inherited lysosomal storage disease. Here we used affinity-purified polyclonal antibodies against the native AGA and its denatured subunits to establish the molecular structure and int

Nursing assessment of dysphagia among patients with stroke

The aims of this study were to investigate the frequency of dysphagia among patients with acute stroke and compare non-dysphagic and dysphagic stroke patients regarding demographic aspects, performance in activities of daily living and type of neurological deficiency and to test a bedside screening tool to identify patients with dysphagia. The frequency of dysphagia was found to be 27%, or 40% if

Processability in Scandinavian second language acquisition.

This paper reports on a test of the validity of Pienemann's (1998) Processability Theory (PT). This theory predicts that certain morphological and syntactic phenomena are acquired in a fixed sequence. Three phenomena were chosen for this study: attributive adjective morphology, predicative adjective morphology, and subordinate clause syntax (placement of negation). These phenomena are located at s

Öppna universum! : slutna traditioner i Salman Rushdies Satansverserna

Avhandlingen visar hur Satansverserna skildrar hur människan uppfattar sig sjäThis thesis in islamology shows how Salman Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses (1988) examines questions concerning religion, nationality, race, and power, compromise and authenticity in a time when different global processes have created new ways of perceiving and relating to different traditions. It examines how The Satanic Verses portrays how people apprehend themselves and others when the condi

A prospective study of brace treatment versus observation alone in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis - A follow-up mean of 16 years after maturity

Study Design. The Swedish patients included in the previous SRS brace study were invited to take part in a long-term follow-up. Objective. To investigate the rate of scoliosis surgery and progression of curves from baseline as well as after maturity. Summary of Background Data. Brace treatment was shown to be superior to electrical muscle stimulation, as well as observation alone, in the original

TGF-alpha regulates TLR expression and function on epidermal keratinocytes

The expression of TLRs on epithelial cells provides a first line of defense against invading pathogens. We investigated the regulated expression and function of TLR5 and TLR9 on human keratinocytes, because we found by immunohistochemistry that these TLRs are expressed in distinct layers of the epidermis. We found that TGF-alpha, a growth and differentiation factor that is present during wound hea

Polarized MIMO channels in 3-D: Models, measurements and mutual information

Fourth-generation (4G) systems are expected to support data rates of the order of 100 Mb/s in the outdoor environment and 1 Gb/s in the indoor/stationary environment. In order to support such large payloads, the radio physical layer must employ receiver algorithms that provide a significant increase in spectrum efficiency (and, hence, capacity) over current wireless systems. Recently, an explosion

Optimizing conventional cardiac MRI in the rabbit at 0.3 T

The aim of this study was to define the most efficient way of performing cardiac MRI for anatomic information in small experimental animals, using a vertical magnetic field with a strength of 0.3 T (FONAR beta-3000M). This information may be used to improve cardiac MRI in infants and small children, since the size of a rabbit is considered comparable to that of a neonate. Experimental axial cardia

G proteins coupled to phospholipase C: molecular targets of long-term ethanol exposure

Long-term ethanol exposure is known to inhibit bradykinin-stimulated phosphoinositide hydrolysis in cultures of neuroblastoma x glioma 108-15 cells. In the present study, [3H]bradykinin binding, GTP-binding protein function, and phospholipase C activity were assayed in cells grown for 4 days in 100 mM ethanol with the aim of elucidating the molecular target of ethanol on signal transduction couple
