Risk faktors for fracture in middle-aged men and women

Popular Abstract in Swedish Sedan årtionden ökar antalet frakturer över hela världen, och i alla ålderskategorier. Frakturer leder ofta till längre tids funktionsinskränkning, sämre livskvalitet och ibland till döden. Projektet ?Malmö Förebyggande Medicin?, an populationsbaserad, prospektiv studie av 22 444 män, medelålder 44 år, och 10 902 kvinnor, medelålder 50 år, är väl lämpad för studier av vThe number of fractures is increasing worldwide, and fractures frequently cause long-term disability, impaired quality of life and sometimes death. The Malmö Preventive Project, a population-based, prospective study, consisting of 22 444 men, mean age 44 and 10 902 women, mean age 50 years, provides data for evaluation of common public health conditions, such as fracture and diabetes. The follow-u

A double-blind, randomised, parallel group, multinational, multicentre study comparing a single dosed of ondansetron 24 mg p.o. with placebo and metoclopramide 10 mg t.d.s. p.o. in the treatment of opioid-induced nausea and emesis in cancer patients

Nausea and emesis are common side effects of opioid drugs administered for pain relief in cancer patients. The aim of this study was to compare the anti-emetic efficacy and safety of ondansetron, placebo and metoclopramide in the treatment of opioid-induced nausea and emesis (OIE) in cancer patients. This was a multinational, multicentre, double-blind, parallel group study in which cancer patients

Syftet med denna avhandling är att diskutera hur de teknologiska förändringar som präglade den andra industriella revolutionens inledande fas påverkade den relativa efterfrågan på yrkesskicSweden experienced a remarkable economic growth in the period 1890-1930, to a large extent due to a very successful adaptation of core elements of the Second Industrial Revolution such as electricity and mechanical engineering. Theoretically this thesis aims at discussing changes in the balance between the relative demand for skilled and unskilled labour during the first phase of the Second Indust

Early Campanian mosasaurs (Reptilia; Mosasauridae) from the Kristianstad Basin, southern Sweden

Under de följande årmiljonerna fick gruppen en närmast global utbMarine strata of latest early Campanian age (sensu germanico) in the Kristianstad Basin, Skåne (Scania), southern Sweden, have yielded a diverse mosasaur fauna comprising six to eight taxa, including Tylosaurus ivoensis, Clidastes propython, Hainosaurus minor n. sp., Halisaurus sternbergii, Platecarpus cf. somenensis, Platecarpus? sp., Dollosaurus sp., and possibly yet another mosasaurine or halis

Micronutrient levels in some temperate European tree species: a comparative field study

Micronutrient concentrations in foliage and stemwood (including bark) of six European tree species (Betula pendula Roth., Quercus robur L., Fraxinus excelsior L., Fagus sylvatica L., Tilia cordata Mill. and Picea abies (L.) Karst.) planted on the same type of soil at six sites in three different countries were studied. Micronutrient concentrations in foliage were considerably higher than in stemwo

Lewis blood group antigens in urine sediments from patients with urinary bladder carcinoma

Urine sediments from 20 patients with urinary bladder carcinoma, and from 11 healthy individuals were investigated for their content of Lea and Leb active glycolipids. The investigation was restricted to blood group phenotype Le (a-b+). All individuals exhibited both Lea- and Leb-active glycolipids. In healthy individuals the ratio Lea/Leb was less than 1 in 10 out of 11 cases, whereas in patients

Successful mobilization of Ph-negative blood stem cells with intensive chemotherapy plus G-CSF in patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia in first chronic phase

The aim of the study was to investigate the feasibility of mobilizing Philadelphia chromosome negative (Ph-) blood stem cells (BSC) with intensive chemotherapy and lenograstim (G-CSF) in patients with CML in first chronic phase (CP1). During 1994-1999 12 centers included 37 patients 556 years. All patients received 6 months' IFN, stopping at median 36 (1-290) days prior to the mobilization chemoth

Vitamin A helps gut T cells find their way in the dark.

Once activated, some T cells home to distinct sites in the body, such as the intestine and inflamed skin. Research in mice shows that dendritic cells in the gut produce a derivative of vitamin A, retinoic acid, that gives T cells directions.

Idag döps barnen framfö alltFrom the time of the establishment of Christianity in Sweden to the middle of the Nineteenth Century all childeren were baptised. In Örebro, in central Sweden, the baptism custom was subsequently broken and weakend. Örebro is in many ways an extreme case. In 1910 only 82 percent of children were baptised. The old dodparent custom was almost extingct in 1910. The dissertation shows the course of ch

Affinity fractionation of lymphocytes using a monolithic cryogel.

A new type of continuous, supermacroporous, monolithic, cryogel affinity adsorbent was developed, allowing specific fractionation and separation of human peripheral blood lymphocytes in a chromatographic format. The affinity adsorbent was used to design a novel cell separation strategy, which was based on the interaction of protein A from Staphylococcus aureus with cells bearing IgG antibodies on
