Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis in Sweden : An observational cohort study
Background: A growing evidence base supports the use of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (aHSCT) for treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), but it has not yet been integrated into most national clinical guidelines. The objective of this study was to assess efficacy and safety when aHSCT is implemented in routine healthcare. Methods: We assessed 231 patients
Conceptual Basis for a Sustainable and Fire Resilient Built Environment
Fire has the potential to create significant impacts on the built environment. Managing this impact is sometimes pursued without consideration of the interface between the natural and technological worlds. However, as society has recognized the impacts of technological development on environmental sustainability, the need for sustainable and resilient development has emerged. To facilitate sustain
Tezepelumab decreases airway epithelial IL-33 and T2-inflammation in response to viral stimulation in patients with asthma
Background: Respiratory virus infections are main triggers of asthma exacerbations. Tezepelumab, an anti-TSLP mAb, reduces exacerbations in patients with asthma, but the effect of blocking TSLP on host epithelial resistance and tolerance to virus infection is not known. Aim: To examine effects of blocking TSLP in patients with asthma on host resistance (IFNβ, IFNλ, and viral load) and on the airwa
The use of antibiotic-loaded bone cement and systemic antibiotic prophylactic use in 2,971,357 primary total knee arthroplasties from 2010 to 2020 : an international register-based observational study among countries in Africa, Europe, North America, and Oceania
Background and purpose — Antibiotic-loaded bone cement (ALBC) and systemic antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP) have been used to reduce periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) rates. We investigated the use of ALBC and SAP in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Patients and methods — This observational study is based on 2,971,357 primary TKAs reported in 2010–2020 to national/regional joint arthroplasty
An Emissions Barrier Stops Spread of Harmful Emissions from a Building into the Indoor Air
An emissions barrier was used in premises with indoor air complaints due to emissions from the buildings in question. The emissions comprised chlorophenols/chloroanisoles and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) from treated wood, volatile organic compounds (VOC) from PVC flooring and/or the glue used to paste the flooring onto a concrete slab, and radon from radium-containing aerated concrete.
Emad Elsewedy, Crisis Management Through the Lens of a Leader
Learning outcomes: This case study covers different concepts related to leadership. It should help students analyze business situations from a leader’s perspective. By the end of this case study, students would be able to understand the role and the characteristics of leadership during a crisis using the 11 dimensions of character framework, map leadership personalities using the HEXACO model to u
Inclusive and multiplicity dependent production of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in pp and p-Pb collisions
Measurements of the production of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in pp collisions at s = 13 TeV at midrapidity with the ALICE detector are presented down to a transverse momentum (p T) of 0.2 GeV/c and up to p T = 35 GeV/c, which is the largest momentum range probed for inclusive electron measurements in ALICE. In p-Pb collisions, the production cross section and the nuclear modificati
Measurement of the Λ hyperon lifetime
A new, more precise measurement of the Λ hyperon lifetime is performed using a large data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV with ALICE. The Λ and Λ¯ hyperons are reconstructed at midrapidity using their two-body weak decay channel Λ→p+π- and Λ¯→p¯+π+. The measured value of the Λ lifetime is τΛ=[261.07±0.37(stat.)±0.72(syst.)] ps. The relative difference between the lifetime of Λ and Λ¯, w
Taxonomic considerations on Aerococcus urinae with proposal of subdivision into Aerococcus urinae, Aerococcus tenax sp. nov., Aerococcus mictus sp. nov., and Aerococcus loyolae sp. nov
Average nucleotide identity analysis, based on whole genome sequences of 115 strains previously identified as Aerococcus urinae, an emerging uropathogen, discriminates at least six unique genomic taxa. The whole genome analysis affords clearer species boundaries over 16S rRNA gene sequencing and traditional phenotypic approaches for the identification and phylogenetic organization of Aerococcus sp
Enhanced Deuteron Coalescence Probability in Jets
The transverse-momentum (pT) spectra and coalescence parameters B2 of (anti)deuterons are measured in p-p collisions at s=13 TeV for the first time in and out of jets. In this measurement, the direction of the leading particle with the highest pT in the event (pTlead>5 GeV/c) is used as an approximation for the jet axis. The event is consequently divided into three azimuthal regions, and the jet s
Azimuthal correlations of heavy-flavor hadron decay electrons with charged particles in pp and p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV
The azimuthal (Δ φ) correlation distributions between heavy-flavor decay electrons and associated charged particles are measured in pp and p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV. Results are reported for electrons with transverse momentum 4 < pT< 16 GeV / c and pseudorapidity | η| < 0.6 . The associated charged particles are selected with transverse momentum 1 < pT< 7 GeV / c , and relative pseudorapidit
GPR162 is a beta cell CART receptor
Cocaine and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) is expressed in pancreatic islet cells and neuronal elements. We have previously established insulinotropic actions of CART in human and rodent islets. The receptor for CART in the pancreatic beta cells is unidentified. We used RNA sequencing of Cartpt knockdown (KD) INS-1 832/13 cells and identified GPR162 as the most Cartpt-regulated receptor.
Methylxanthine for the prevention and treatment of apnea in preterm infants
BACKGROUND: Very preterm infants often require respiratory support and are therefore exposed to an increased risk of chronic lung disease and later neurodevelopmental disability. Although methylxanthines are widely used to prevent and treat apnea associated with prematurity and to facilitate extubation, there is uncertainty about the benefits and harms of different types of methylxanthines.OBJECTI

Automated actual evapotranspiration estimation : Hybrid model of a novel attention based U-Net and metaheuristic optimization algorithms
Actual evapotranspiration (ETa) plays a crucial role in the water and energy cycles of the earth. An accurate estimate of the ETa is essential for management of the water resources, agriculture, and irrigation, as well as research on atmospheric variations. Despite the importance of accurate ETa values, estimating and mapping them remains challenging due to the physical and biological complexity o

Violence and victim souls : Exploring the connection of gender-based violence, beatification, and Christian theology of suffering
Commencing from the question “what makes mysticism feminine?” (a medical-historical conception of female bodies being receptive to some forms of mystical experiences? following an idea of gendered embodiment, a specific feminine spiritual corporeality?), the presence of forms of violence preceding the beatification or sanctification of women as victim souls caught my attention.Examples like Laura
