High resolution digital transmission microscopy : a Fourier holography approach

A spherical reference field is used to construct a digital holography system with a demonstrated resolution down to 228 line pairs per mm. The reference field origin from a GRIN lens placed 1mm from the illuminated object. This allows the use of a standard sensor to record the hologram with the required numerical aperture. The image is determined by evaluation of the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld diffraction i

Handling of ectopic beats in heart rate variability analysis using the heart timing signal

The problem of analyzing heart rate variability in the presence of ectopic beats is revisited. Based on the IPFM model and the closely related heart timing signal, a new technique is introduced which corrects for the occasional presence of such beats. The correction technique, which involves the occurrence times of a certain number of beats preceding the ectopic, is computationally very efficient.

Control Design for a Bilinear System. Reachable Sets and Exact Linearization

A bilinear system model of a continuous tank reactor from a biotechnology application (F. Mandenius et al., 1987) is studied. The concentrations of the substrate sugar and the product ethanol were measured on-line and utilized to control the flow-rate through the fermenter. The system can be integrated analytically making it possible to describe the reachable sets. Limited controllability is found

Sprays thermometry using two color LIF and SLIPI

Knowing the droplets temperature is of great importance in spray-assisted combustion devices as it directly affects the droplet evaporation rate. This information helps optimizing the fuel/air mixture formation for the improvement of combustion devices. To measure the temperature of spray droplets, optical techniques such as Rainbow-Refractrometry (for point-wise) and the two-color LIF ratio therm

An expurgation upper bound on the probability of corret path loss for time-invariant convolutional codes

In this paper list decoding of convolutional codes is considered. List decoding is a very powerful, low complexity, non-backtracking decoding method that does not fully exploit the error correcting capability of the code. A correct path loss is a serious kind of error event that is typical for list decoding. An expurgated upper bound on the probability of correct path loss is derived for the ensem

Designing simultaneous saccharification and co-fermentation of lignocellulose for improved xylose conversion

All sugars in the material must be utilized in order to achieve high overall ethanol yields. Baker’s yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, has been engineered to ferment the pentose sugar xylose from lignocellulose to ethanol. However, ethanol production from xylose is slow and often incomplete.
