Description
The course covers digitisation and digital methods and work practices in practice as well as their consequences for how history is made accessible, preserved and analysed. The course takes its starting point in both research training and in the organisations that convey and make digital cultural heritage data accessible in different forms.
Emphasis is placed on how digitisation, accessibility and digital workpractices influence the conditions for both historical studies and the conveyance of history to a broader audience.
The course is included as part of the second semester of the Master's program in Historical Studies, as a selective course.
Beskrivning
For students with 90 credits in history or a related subject, with a bachelor’s thesis, who want to understand how digitalisation affects the subject of history and want to develop methodological skills in digital history. The course can be a free-standing course at advanced level, or be included in the Master’s program in Historical Studies and the Master’s program in Film and Media History.
This course will give you in-depth knowledge of digitalisation and its consequences for how the past is made available, preserved and analysed. The course focuses on research practices and on the sharing of digital cultural heritage data. Emphasis is placed on the changing conditions for historical research and the communication of history to a wider audience. The language of instruction is English.

First or Second Admission Round?
All international students are encouraged to apply to the First admission round. This round takes place many months before the start of a semester and gives students the time they need to pay their tuition fees, apply for and receive their residence permit (if required), find housing, etc.
The Second admission round is an alternative for students from EU/EEA countries as they do not need a residence permit. Non-EU/EEA students will most likely not have enough time to obtain their permit before the start of the semester. However, even EU/EEA students are advised to apply during the First admission round, as some programmes can be applied for only in the January round. Also, this provides applicants with an admission decision much earlier, which is helpful in making decisions about their studies.
