The road to happiness : a spatial study of accessibility and well-being in Hambantota, Sri Lanka

Denna modell är utvecklad i ett Geografiskt Informationssystem (GIS)This study tries to visualise and explain variations and patterns in well-being throughout the Hambantota District in southern Sri Lanka. This is accomplished by using a large interview database with questions and answers on developing factors and subjective well-being and linking this to a model of accessibility. The accessibility model was developed in a Geographical Information System (GIS) as

Lattice Structures of Precoders Maximizing the Minimum Distance in Linear Channels

This paper investigates linear precoding over nonsingular linear channels with additive white Gaussian noise, with lattice-type inputs. The aim is to maximize the minimum distance of the received lattice points, where the precoder is subject to an energy constraint. It is shown that the optimal precoder only produces a finite number of different lattices, namely perfect lattices, at the receiver.

Resolving and Transforming Conflicts: An Empirical Study of Track II/III Diplomacy and Its Interplay with Track I Diplomacy in Sino-Japanese Relations Since the End of WWII

The purpose of this thesis is to shed light on the role of Track II and Track III diplomacy as a means to shape Sino-Japanese relations. It studies the Track II and Track III diplomacy and its interplay and interrelations with Track I diplomacy in Sino-Japanese relations since the end of the WWII. It analyzes the function of Track II and Track III (or non-governmental) diplomacy and their interrel

On the Erasure-Correcting Capabilities of Low-Complexity Decoded LDPC Codes with Constituent Hamming Codes

Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes can be constructed using constituent block codes other than single parity-check (SPC) codes. This paper considers random LDPC codes with constituent Hamming codes and investigates their asymptotic performance over the binary erasure channel. It is shown that there exist Hamming code-based LDPC codes which, when decoded with a low-complexity iterative algorithm

'Species' from two different butterfly genera combined into one : Description of a new genus of Euptychiina (Nymphalidae: Satyrinae) with unusually variable wing pattern

Sepona Freitas and Barbosa, gen. nov. is proposed for the Neotropical satyrine butterfly species Euptychia punctata Weymer, 1911 and its junior subjective synonyms Euptychia griseola Weymer, 1911 and Taygetis indecisa Ribeiro, 1931. The new genus has a distinctive wing pattern and shape of the valvae in the male genitalia, the latter being a unique autapomorphy within the subtribe Euptychiina. Bas

Structural, spectroscopic, and electrochemical properties of tri- and tetradentate N-3 and N3S copper complexes with mixed benzimidazole/thioether donors

Cupric and cuprous complexes of bis(2-methylbenzimidazolyl)(2-methylthiophene) amine (L-1), bis(2-methylbenzimidazolyl)benzylamine (L-2), bis(2-methylbenzimidazolyl)(2,4-dimethylphenylthioethyl)-amine (L-3), bis(1-methyl-2-methylbenzimidazolyl)benzylamine (Me2L2), and bis(1-methyl-2-methylbenzimidazolyl)(2,4-dimethylphenylthioethyl)amine (Me2L3) have been spectroscopically, structurally, and elect

Deeper Insight into Depth-Profiling of Aqueous Solutions Using Photoelectron Spectroscopy

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is widely used to probe properties such as molecular stoichiometry, microscopic distributions relative to the surface by so-called depth-profiling, and molecular orientation. Such studies usually rely on the core-level photoionization cross sections being independent of molecular composition. The validity of this assumption has recently been questioned, as a

Measuring genome conservation across taxa: divided strains and united kingdoms

Species evolutionary relationships have traditionally been defined by sequence similarities of phylogenetic marker molecules, recently followed by whole-genome phylogenies based on gene order, average ortholog similarity or gene content. Here, we introduce genome conservation—a novel metric of evolutionary distances between species that simultaneously takes into account, both gene content and sequ

Bio-inspired crossover and a model of neuronal reprogramming

Bio-inspired crossover:Natural genomes are affected by various kinds of mutations, manifesting as variations in the genome. This includes modifications to individual base pairs (single nucleotide polymorphism, SNP), but also short insertions and deletions (indels), and variations in the position (translocations) or multiplicity (copy number variations) of genetic sequences. While SNPs are historic

Chondroitin sulfate expression predicts poor outcome in breast cancer.

Experimental studies have established that the sulfated glycosaminoglycans heparan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate act as co-receptors of cytokines and growth factors that drive the malignant cell phenotype and the remodelling of the surrounding tumor stroma. However, the clinical relevance of these studies remains ill-defined. The present study investigates the significance of chondroitin sulfate

Haemophilia

Haemophilia A and B are rare congenital, recessive X-linked disorders caused by lack or deficiency of clotting factor VIII (FVIII) or IX (FIX), respectively. The severity of the disease depends on the reduction of levels of FVIII or FIX, which are determined by the type of the causative mutation in the genes encoding the factors (F8 and F9, respectively). The hallmark clinical characteristic, espe

Centiloid scaling for quantification of brain amyloid with [18F]flutemetamol using multiple processing methods

INTRODUCTION: A standardised method for quantifying β-amyloid PET tracers would allow comparison across different tracers and different sites. The development of the Centiloid scale has aimed to achieve this, applying a common scale to better aid the diagnosis and prognosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and to monitor anti-amyloid therapeutic interventions. Here, we apply the Centiloid method to [18

Cancer follow-up supported by patient-reported outcomes in patients undergoing intended curative complex surgery for advanced cancer

Background and aim: Patient activation (PA) and Patient Involvement (PI) are considered elements in good survivorship. We aimed to evaluate the effect of a follow-up supported by electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) on PA and PI. Method: From February 2017 to January 2019, we conducted an explorative interventional study. We included 187 patients followed after intended curative complex sur

SVTs Uppdrag granskning sände den 3 februari 2016 sitt tredje reportage kring Arla, vilket föThe soured milk The purpose of this study is to examine how an organization can crisis communicate on the social media channel Twitter during a crisis of confidence. The farmer-owned cooperative Arla is having financial trouble as the milk crisis have put a lot of the former Arla owners out of business. But in some parts of the organization, an unhealthy cost culture has been detected. On February

Video on Demand (VoD) is a service that delivers video seamlessly to the consumer on demand. This thesis examines the consumers’ opinion on the different VoD services that exists on the Swedish market. To conduct our research we collected quantitative data by using a survey and then conducted a qualitative analysis. As a theoretical framework we used our own modified version of The DeLone and

Modelling of gene regulatory and spatial mechanisms which pattern the early human neural tube

Hur är det då möjligt att en äggcell kan ge upphov till alla de helt olika sTissue patterning during development is thought to be driven largely by gene regulatory responses to spatial gradients of molecular signals, known as morphogens. In this thesis, early patterning of the human neural tube is studied using two different gene regulatory network models. The models portray patterning in the rostral-caudal direction as a response to gradients of WNT and FGF signalling. T
