Industrialization Vs. Urbanization Environmental Impact: The Case of Former Soviet Union Republics, 1990-2013
While global carbon dioxide emissions increase considerably over the past decades, the former Soviet Union republics experience a substantial decrease of the environmental indicator since the dissolution of the USSR. Nonetheless, considering the prominent Soviet heritage in a form of energy intensive heavy manufacturing, industrialization remains one of the strong determinants for the environmenta

Development of a Web Mapping Application for grazing resource information in Kordofan, Sudan, by downloading MODIS data automatically via Python
Since livestock is dependent on vegetation as food supply it is important to monitor biomass within the area to be able to assess and adapt to different situations regarding the livestock. Optimally such approximations should be available as early as possible in order for the owners to be able to make decisions while it still makes a difference.

The ticket machines that are in use today are difficult to interact with and excluding to people who are sight impaired or uses a wheelchair. Since Skånetrafiken are going to implement new self-service solutions in 2019 they want suggestions on how it could be designed. We thought that this project was an exc
Development of an Upconverting Nanoparticles Quantum Yield Measurement System
Fluorescence imaging is a growing biomedical technique; it can be used to localize the luminescent biomarkers inside the tissue. Lanthanide-doped upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) are promising luminescent probes for multiple applications in biophotonics. They allow acquiring autofluorescence-free recordings with high spatial resolution. How- ever, upconverting nanoparticles have a low quantum yi
Social Mobility and Educational Inequality in England: A Regional Breakdown
The UK has one of the lowest rates of social mobility in the developed world. While ample research has been published on the stratification of British society resulting from this, far less UK-specific work looks to unpack the processes which ensure these divides persist. This study reviews wider social mobility literature to demonstrate how inequality of opportunity in human capital development co
Work factors, welfare regimes and health - The effects of psychosocial work factors on the health of older European workers and the impact of different welfare regimes
Abstract: The Demand-Control Model and the Effort-Reward-Imbalance Model are two models of occupational health that connects psychosocial work factors to health. Related research has often focused on small and homogenous samples and has rarely taken into account the eventual intermediating effect of different welfare regimes. Furthermore results regarding gender have been ambiguous. Through logist
This study aimed to examine the relatives' crisis associated with war-related experiences and the effect of the disappearance of family members during the Kosovo War. Based on the purpose of the study questions were formulated to find out the impact of the war’s events, the support relatives received to handle their everyday life, and the opportunity to process their crisis response. The crisi
Fe-Mo-oxide of spinel structure for methanol oxidation
The aim of this master thesis was to investigate a Fe-Mo-oxide catalyst of spinel structure for methanol oxidation to produce formaldehyde and determine if the spinel could be an alternative to the commercial Formox catalyst used today. This included firstly, synthesising the catalyst to get more knowledge of the formation of the structure and secondly, determine the activity, selectivity to forma
This paper will illustrate legally knowledgeable judges’ experiences of working with lay judges in the district courts of Sweden, as well as their advantages and disadvantages within the judicial field. The system of lay judges has been subject for discussion both within the media and internally within the court. This may be partly due to the general lack of legal knowledge withheld by the lay jud
An Introduction to Two-dimensional Electronic Spectroscopy and its Applications
This thesis is written as an introductory compilation of two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) and its applications. It introduces the concepts of 2DES where the aim is to provide an overview of the technique and a few of its more prominent applications for those who are not already familiar with the technique. 2DES is a third-order optics technique that utilizes three interactions with l
Okunska
The use of Machine Learning Algorithms for Adaptive Question Selection in Questionnaire-based Mental Health Data Collection Apps
This report discusses the implementation of machine learning algorithms for personalising question selection in a questionnaire-based self-report app for individuals suffering from mental health issues. A so-called \textit{Random Forest - Genetic Algorithm} (RFGA) hybrid prediction method is used to find an optimal set of relevant questions to pose to new users in the app. A complementary ad-hoc pTeaching computers to find factors that affect the mental health of app users By training computers to find patterns in how users answer questions regarding their mental health in self-report apps, factors that affect the users' psychological well-being can be found.
In a Space of Non-existence: The Life of Afghan Undocumented Refugees in Malmö
As the ‘era of borders’ can define the structure of the present European Union and its nation-state members, the rapid increase in international migration and the high amount of refugees can reveal how today’s EU politics has come to focus on the importance of maintaining the present-day European Union and its unifying identity. In consequence to the on-going politics, it is required to lower the
This bachelor thesis concerns the Swedish artist Maria Röhl (1801-1875). She had her peak in the 1840ties as the favorite portrait artist of the Swedish bourgeoisie and nobility. The questions I put forward in the thesis are focused on facial- and hand features in her drawings. From where do they originate? Does it have an origin in fashion, society or in con- temporary scientific views? The resea
Nonprofit Innovation Measurement and Regional Nonprofit Systems
Nonprofit organizations are an important element of society. They provide services, and advocate for change, through their programs. But how do they create their programs? This thesis defines nonprofit innovation as the implementation of a new or significantly improved program, and suggests we borrow practices used to understand firm innovation, to understand nonprofit innovation. A Nonprofit Inno
