Predictors of enhancing human physical attractiveness: Data from 93 countries

People across the world and throughout history have gone to great lengths to enhance their physical appearance. Evolutionary psychologists and ethologists have largely attempted to explain this phenomenon via mating preferences and strategies. Here, we test one of the most popular evolutionary hypotheses for beauty-enhancing behaviors, drawn from mating market and parasite stress perspectives, in

A Mediatized Bible : Discourses on the Hebrew Bible in Swedish Newspaper Debates

In this article, I explore interpretations and depictions of the Hebrew Bible in Swedish daily press between 1987 and 2017. As a point of departure, I examine three debates concerning three different aspects of the Hebrew Bible (in the debates understood as the “Old Testament”): its depictions of women, God, and homosexuality. The analysis shows that the Hebrew Bible tends to be portrayed as a pro

The Changing Meaning of the Wage Bargaining Round in Sweden since the 1960s: A Contextual Approach to Shifts in Industrial Relations

Sweden is renowned for its centralized wage bargaining system, which has been studied for decades from the point of view of inflation, wage differentials and unemployment. A coordinated system in place since 1997 has been compared to the centralized system of the postwar era, while other scholars have pointed to differences in how the institutions work in practice. This paper studies media coverag

Kungahuset.se är den svenska kungafamilIn this essay, I examine the mediation of social structures, like heteronormativity and "us and them" perspective, in the texts and images at kungahuset.se. I also study how text and images are dramatized and myths are created or retold. I have limited my study to the publications made in the royal calendar, from 1-31 October 2012.

Uppsatsen redogör för konceptet militant demokrati och undersöker On the 30th of September 2017 the Swedish Nazi party Nordiska motståndsrörelsen had a permit to demonstrate in the streets of Gothenburg. This open access book deals with the role of written texts in an increasingly diverse and dynamic society, bringing together a series of studies anchored in the Scandinavian research tradition of sakprosa, which roughly translates as ‘subject-oriented prose’ or ‘professional communication’.

I avhandlingen skildras hur detta pund förvaltades under 1990-taThe subject of this study is the re-construction of German national identity and nationalist thinking within the framework of the 1990s’ history discourse in relation to the Nazi past and the Holocaust. The empirical focus is on national politics and the press. Maurice Halbwachs’ social constructionist theory on collective memory and Jan Assmann’s thesis on the defining power of elites in the cult

Hur detta kan motverkIn Sweden the media is often called the fourth pillar of government. The pow-er the media has is used to hold persons of power accountable, create opinion, and spread information to the citizens. This is a vital part of a well-functioning democracy. The consolidation of this power could have a negative impact on democracy by reducing the number of perspectives and opinions represented in media ove
