The portrayal of Sweden in American alt-right media, as exemplified by Breitbart News
The alt-right is a fairly recent addition to the pantheon of political ideologies. Its rise to prominence is seen by many as the driving force behind Donald Trump’s presidency. The youth of the ideology has also created a natural relationship between it and the fields of new media and cyberculture. In alt-right media, the topic of Sweden is frequently recurring, and the theme is most often of a na
Dynamic in-situ imaging of methane hydrate formation and self-preservation in porous media
We present the results of dynamic in-situ 3D X-ray imaging of methane hydrates microstructure during methane hydrate formation and dissociation in sand samples. Short scanning times and high resolution provided by synchrotron X-rays allowed for better understanding of water movement and different types of gas-hydrate formation. Complementing previous observations, we conclude that the process of g

Recurrent otitis media : genetic immunoglobulin markers in children and their parents
The likelihood that hereditary factors play a significant role in the development of recurrent acute otitis media (rAOM) in children has been suggested. The genetically determined immunoglobulin variants, Gm and Km, are useful tools for mapping out the genetic loci involved in antibody responses. Certain Gm and Km types, G2m(23) and Km(1), appear to be linked to genes which regulate the concentrat
Disciplining Tionghoa : Critical Discourse Analysis of News Media During Indonesia's New Order
Indonesia has a history of hundreds of years revolving around the racism against its 3% Chinese ethnic minority—who are also known as Tionghoa. This circumstance engenders the racial-social order that has been shaping the attitudes and behaviours of the Chinese, both individually and collectively, in social, cultural, and political realms. The Chinese have become self-controlled and self-regulated
"Who writes the rules on the internet?" - The conversation about Facebook in German news media between 2012 and 2021
Facebook is one of the most powerful internet companies worldwide with little to few alternatives on the market. Televised Whorf : Cognitive Restructuring in Advanced Foreign Language Learners as a Function of Audiovisual Media Exposure
The encoding of goal-oriented motion events varies across different languages. Speakers of languages without grammatical aspect (e.g., Swedish) tend to mention motion endpoints when describing events (e.g., “two nuns walk to a house”) and attach importance to event endpoints when matching scenes from memory. Speakers of aspect languages (e.g., English), on the other hand, are more prone to direct
Political polarization as a media narrative: the Swedish case, 2011-2020.
Although findings yield differing conclusions, there is a consensus that the US political system has polarized in the last few decades (Mason 2018). Outside of the US, empirical results have been scarce and mixed. Political polarization tends to be easier to measure in a two-party system, whereas multiparty systems might not be as conducive to clear cases of polarization. Media effects are one of
