BAY 81-8973 Demonstrates Long-Term Safety and Efficacy in Children With Severe Haemophilia A : Results From the LEOPOLD Kids Extension Study

OBJECTIVES: To report the long-term safety and efficacy of BAY 81-8973 in the LEOPOLD Kids extension phase.METHODS: Patients received BAY 81-8973 (25-50 IU/kg) at least twice weekly. The primary endpoint was safety, assessed in all patients who entered the extension phase (n = 82). Efficacy endpoints were assessed in patients without high-titre inhibitors/immune tolerance induction (n = 67).RESULT

I denna uppsats undersöks läkares befogenheter oIt has long been recognized that the professional practice of doctors is of such a nature that in an objective sense it fulfills the requirements of certain criminal acts. Since healthcare is a desirable activity on the part of society, the professional practice of doctors needs to be covered by a discharge from liability that justifies the permissibility of medical practice. This paper examines t

Association between injury-related factors and cartilage T2 relaxation time in the subacute phase in patients after anterior cruciate ligament injury

OBJECTIVE: To investigate associations between meniscal tear, bone marrow lesions (BMLs), and post-injury knee loading, with cartilage T2 relaxation times on knee magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the subacute phase following acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.DESIGN: We studied both knees of 128 patients with ACL injury. The presence of meniscal tears and BMLs were determined on suba

Thomas Bensby

Senior lecturer The aim of my research is to understand how our home galaxy, the Milky Way, and its stellar populations formed and evolved to what we observe today. There are many pieces in the puzzle and I focus on the observational ones, mapping the detailed structure in terms of abundances, kinematics, and ages, using high-resolution spectra obtained with the large optical telescopes around the

Higher serum DHEA concentrations before and after SSRI treatment are associated with remission of major depression

Background Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfated ester DHEA-sulfate (DHEA-S), (together DHEA[S]), are the most abundant adrenal steroids in humans and are found in blood and the brain, where they function as neurosteroids with direct receptor affinities. Preclinical studies suggest that DHEA(S) has antidepressant/neuroprotective properties, and exogenously administered DHEA has shown anti

Modelling Stem Cells Lineages with Markov Trees

A variational Bayesian EM with smoothed probabilities algorithm for hidden Markov trees (HMT) is proposed for incomplete tree structured data. The full posterior of the HMT parameters is determined and the underflow problems associated with previous algorithms are eliminated. Example results for the prediction of the types of cells in real stem cell lineage trees are presented.

Low serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor is associated with suicidal ideation in major depressive disorder

The “neurotrophic hypothesis of depression” posits that low levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) are associated with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Low levels of BDNF have also been found in individuals with suicide attempts, in MDD or other disorders, suggesting that low BDNF may also be associated with suicidality. We assessed serum BDNF in 68 physically healthy and unmedicated (

Association of cysteine-rich secretory protein 3 and beta-microseminoprotein with outcome after radical prostatectomy

Purpose: It has been suggested that cysteine-rich secretory protein 3 (CRISP-3) and p-microseminoprotein (MSP) are associated with outcome in prostate cancer. We investigated whether these markers are related to biochemical recurrence and whether addition of the markers improves prediction of recurring disease. Experimental Design: Tissue microarrays of radical prostatectomy specimens were analyze

Graphene Synthesis on Cubic SiC/Si Wafers. Perspectives for Mass Production of Graphene-Based Electronic Devices

The outstanding properties of graphene, a single graphite layer, render it a top candidate for substituting silicon in future electronic devices, The so far exploited synthesis approaches, however, require conditions typically achieved in specialized laboratories and result in graphene sheets whose electronic properties are often altered by interactions with substrate materials. The development of

TraditionelltThe People, the Axe and the Root of Injustice: the Swedish Suffrage Movement's Discourse Community 1887?1902, its Production of Meaning and the Concept of Democracy In this thesis, I present a study of the Swedish suffrage movement's discourse community. The analyses focus primarily on the core of this movement, the Swedish Public Suffrage Association (Sveriges allmänna rösträttsförbund). This as

Rotated domain network in graphene on cubic-SiC(001)

The atomic structure of the cubic-SiC(001) surface during ultra-high vacuum graphene synthesis has been studied using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and low-energy electron diffraction. Atomically resolved STM studies prove the synthesis of a uniform, millimeter-scale graphene overlayer consisting of nanodomains rotated by +/- 13.5 degrees relative to the < 110 >-directed boundaries. The pref

PBMC telomerase activity, but not leukocyte telomere length, correlates with hippocampal volume in major depression.

Accelerated cell aging, indexed in peripheral leukocytes by telomere shortness and in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) by telomerase activity, has been reported in several studies of major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the relevance of these peripheral measures for brain indices that are presumably more directly related to MDD pathophysiology is unknown. In this study, we explored
