A Machine Learning Approach to Skin Cancer Delineation on Photoacoustic Imaging

Skin cancer is a growing public health concern due to its prevalence among the population. Current clinical procedures require high invasiveness and multiple surgeries, which are responsible for patient discomfort and high medical expenses. Photoacoustic imaging offers an alternative to standard skin carcinoma diagnosis by exploiting the low scattering rate of ultrasound, which enables deep tissue

Högsta domstolen har i KravmA lot has been published about the obligation to notify the breaching party of a breach of contract. Despite that, the legal position is still unclear. The obligation to notify a breaching party of a breach of contract is just one element of the requirement to notify a party in a contractual relationship. The Supreme Court has delivered judgment in several cases in which a passivity principle crea

Practical aspects of extended half-life products for the treatment of haemophilia

Haemophilia A and haemophilia B are congenital X-linked bleeding disorders caused by deficiency of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) and IX (FIX), respectively. The preferred treatment option for patients with haemophilia is replacement therapy. For patients with severe disease, prophylactic replacement of coagulation factor is the treatment of choice; this has been shown to reduce arthropathy signi

Inhibitors in haemophilia A and B : Management of bleeds, inhibitor eradication, and strategies for difficult-to-treat patients

The standard therapy for patients with haemophilia is prophylactic treatment with replacement factor VIII (FVIII) or factor IX (FIX). Patients who develop inhibitors against FVIII/FIX face an increased risk of bleeding, and the likelihood of early development of progressive arthropathy, alongside higher treatment-related costs. Bypassing agents can be used to prevent and control bleeding, as well

A quantitative model of cellular decision making in direct neuronal reprogramming

The direct reprogramming of adult skin fibroblasts to neurons is thought to be controlled by a small set of interacting gene regulators. Here, we investigate how the interaction dynamics between these regulating factors coordinate cellular decision making in direct neuronal reprogramming. We put forward a quantitative model of the governing gene regulatory system, supported by measurements of mRNA

Different angioregulatory activity of monovalent galectin-9 isoforms

Galectin-9 consists of two peptide-linked carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs), but alternative splicing and proteolytic processing can give rise to multiple galectin-9 isoforms. Some of these consist of a single CRD and can exert different functions in cell biology. Here, we explored the role of these galectin-9 isoforms in endothelial cell function and angiogenesis. For this, we compared the

Efficacy of pre-participation cardiac evaluation recommendations among athletes participating in World Athletics Championships

Background Athletes competing in athletics (track and field) at international level may be participating with underlying undiagnosed life-threatening cardiovascular conditions. Our objective was to analyse variations in pre-participation cardiac evaluation prevalence among athletes participating in two International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Athletics Championships, with re

Strategies and Combinations of Measures for Renovations of Swedish Heritage Buildings – A Review

In order to achieve environmental goals, the impact of the European building stock on the environment needs to be reduced through renovation measures. However, regarding heritage buildings, the choice of measure(s) must simultaneously consider the preservation of cultural and historical values. Besides the impact on such values, energy-efficiency measures can result in increased risks for moisture

Injury acknowledgement by reduction of sports load in world-leading athletics (track and field) athletes varies with their musculoskeletal health literacy and the socioeconomic environment

OBJECTIVE: Although injury burden prompts elite athletics (track and field) athletes to engage in injury management, little is known about their health literacy. We investigated musculoskeletal (MS) health literacy in world-leading athletics athletes and associations with prechampionship injury acknowledgement by reduction of training load in different socioeconomic environments.METHODS: Adult and

B1 SINE-binding ZFP266 impedes mouse iPSC generation through suppression of chromatin opening mediated by reprogramming factors

Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) reprogramming is inefficient and understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying this inefficiency holds the key to successfully control cellular identity. Here, we report 24 reprogramming roadblock genes identified by CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome-wide knockout (KO) screening. Of these, depletion of the predicted KRAB zinc finger protein (KRAB-ZFP) Zfp266 stro

The evolution of lexical semantics dynamics, directionality, and drift

Introduction: The directionality of semantic change is problematic in traditional comparative models of language reconstruction. Compared to, e.g., phonological and morphological change, the directions of meaning change over time are potentially endless and difficult to reconstruct. The current paper attempts to reconstruct the mechanisms of lexical meaning change by a quantitative model. We use a

Unveiling the power of selling spare-parts as a happy-meal

Companies selling industrial machines are seeing a shift where profits are moving from new sales, towards retrieving revenue throughout the whole customer life cycle. Instead of selling new machines, the companies in the industry need to look towards what is referred to as “the aftermarket”. The aftermarket is the part of the market where spare-parts and maintenance services are sold to existing c

On the Error-Correcting Capabilities of Low-Complexity Decoded LDPC Codes with Constituent Hamming Codes

Hamming code-based LDPC (H-LDPC) block codes are obtained by replacing the single parity-check constituent codes in Gallager's LDPC codes with Hamming codes. This paper investigates the asymptotic performance of ensembles of random H-LDPC codes, used over the binary symmetric channel and decoded with a low-complexity hard-decision iterative decoding algorithm. It is shown that there exist H-LDPC c

Twist extrusion plus spread extrusion = Spatial uniformity

Spread extrusion (SE), proposed by the first author, is a direct extrusion with spread and without elongation. SE does not change the cross-sections of a workpiece so it may be used for multipass deformation in combination with Twist extrusion (TE). We investigate the plastic flow at the TE and SE. We show that a combination of TE and SE leads to mixing of the metal within the specimen.

Microstructural evolution of titanium under twist extrusion

We present some experimental results describing microstructural evolution in commercially pure titanium during severe plastic deformation by twist extrusion (TE). In particular, we show that increasing the number of TE passes leads to the decrease of the grain size d in both orthogonal and parallel cross-sections of the work piece. For example, if in its original state titanium has d ∼ 25 μm, then

Features of twist extrusion : Method, structures & material properties

During the last decade it has been shown that severe plastic deformation (SPD) is a very effective for obtaining ultra-fine grained (UFG) and nanostructured materials. The basic SPD methods are High Pressure Torsion (HPT) and Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE). Recently several new methods have been developed: 3D deformation, Accumulative Roll Bonding, Constrained Groove Pressing, Repetitive C

An empirical ignition delay correlation allowing cetane number rating in a production compression ignition engine

This work presents an alternative cetane rating method using a production compression ignition (CI) engine, offering an accessible approach for preliminary fuel evaluation without the need for specialized equipment. As part of this work, an empirical correlation was developed linking ignition delay (ID) to both the cetane number (CN) and intake oxygen concentration. The test method follows the pri
