Cardiovascular Risk, Cardiac Function, Physical Activity, and Quality of Life with and without Long-Term Growth Hormone Therapy in Adult Survivors of Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Context: Long-term data are missing in GH-treated acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients. GH therapy may result in poorer outcome regarding cardiovascular (CV) and particularly cardiac effects than in patients with hypothalamic-pituitary disease. Objective: Our objective was to evaluate GH therapy on CV risk, cardiac function, physical activity, and quality of life in ALL patients treated wit

Social relationships and health as predictors of life satisfaction in advanced old age: results from a Swedish longitudinal study
This longitudinal study examines the relationship between family and friend social support, health, and life satisfaction for a single cohort of eighty-year-old persons living in Lund, Sweden. Results indicate that participants who remained in the study are healthier and score higher on life satisfaction when compared with those who either drop-out or die prior to age eighty-three. Even though wel
Radiative lifetime measurements in TmIII with time-resolved laser spectroscopy and comparisons with HFR calculations
Natural radiative lifetimes of eight levels in Tm m were measured with the time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technique. Free doubly ionized thulium ions were obtained in a laser-produced plasma. Three even-parity levels were excited from the ground state with one-photon excitation, using a laser system generating pulses of 1 ns duration. Five odd-parity levels were excited from the gr

Immunological systems biology: gene expression analysis of B-cell development in Ramos B-cells.
B-cell development into antibody producing cells is a complex process that relies on the tightly controlled production of hundreds of genes and proteins. A B-cell is activated through the B-cell receptor (BCR) and this activation is modified by different co-stimulatory or inhibitory co-receptors. The concerted action of signals from BCR and from co-receptors decides the fate of the B-cells. The ma
Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Diagnostic Accuracy of Percutaneous Renal Tumour Biopsy.
The role of percutaneous renal tumour biopsy (RTB) remains controversial due to uncertainties regarding its diagnostic accuracy and safety.
Rehabilitation Engineering and Design Research - Theory and Method
All scientific research requires problem definition and discipline, as well as concept and method formation. However, from a human point of view the most important problems are probably those found in areas where it may be difficult to provide such ideal research conditions. Rehabilitation engineering and design research is one such field. Nonetheless, we believe that these theory and method forma
Nonequilibrium Green’s function theory for transport and gain properties of quantum cascade structures
The transport and gain properties of quantum cascade (QC) structures are investigated using a nonequilibrium Green's function (NGF) theory which includes quantum effects beyond a Boltzmann transport description. In the NGF theory, we include interface roughness, impurity, and electron-phonon scattering processes within a self-consistent Born approximation, and electron-electron scattering in a mea

Association of coatomer proteins with the beta-receptor for platelet-derived growth factor
The nonreceptor tyrosine kinase Src binds to and is activated by the beta-receptor for platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). The interaction leads to Src phosphorylation of Tyr934 in the kinase domain of the receptor. In the course of the functional characterization of this phosphorylation, we noticed that components of 136 and 97 kDa bound to a peptide from this region of the receptor in a phosp
