Longitudinal changes in cardiovascular disease–related proteins in welders
Objective: Occupational exposure to welding fumes is linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease; however, the threshold exposure level is unknown. Here, we aimed to identify changes in proteins associated with cardiovascular disease in relation to exposure to welding fumes. Methods: Data were obtained from two timepoints six years apart for 338 non-smoking men (171 welders, 167 controls); o
Sustainability Transformation and the Transformative Capacity of Nation States: Implications of Innovation Policy
The need for radical transformations to respond to the environmental polycrises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution has come to the forefront of political and academic debates. Nation states must have transformative capacity, meaning the ability to ignite, enable, and steer large-scale sustainability transformations. However, despite its importance, there remains a significant gap
Preoperatively suspected gallbladder cancer improves survival compared with incidental gallbladder cancer in pT3 patients
Background: The aim was to compare survival for incidental gallbladder cancer (IGBC), respectively, preoperatively suspected gallbladder cancer (GBC), subjected to surgery for different pathological tumour (pT) stages and in different treatment groups in a national cohort. Methods: Data were collected and crosslinked from two national quality registers, SweLiv (2009–2019) and GallRiks (2009–2016).
Vividness, narrative transportation, and sense of presence in destination marketing : empirical evidence from augmented reality tourism
The rise of augmented reality (AR) technology offers potential opportunities for the tourism industry and academia. Drawing upon narrative transportation and presence theory, this paper investigates the relationship between vividness, narrative transportation, sense of presence, and visiting other AR destination. The empirical findings indicate that vividness enhances narrative transportation and
A Statistical Framework for Assessing the Relationship between Biomarkers and Clinical Endpoints in Alzheimer’s Disease
Changes in biomarker levels of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) reflect underlying pathophysiological changes in the brain and can provide evidence of direct and downstream treatment effects linked to disease modification. Recent results from clinical trials of anti–amyloid β (Aβ) treatments have raised the question of how to best characterize the relationship between AD biomarkers and clinical endpoints.
The Socioeconomics of Wind Power Expansion: Evidence from Sweden
We document the socioeconomics of wind power expansion in Sweden using two metrics. First, we compute the difference in socioeconomic status (SES) between residents exposed to wind power (0-2 km from the closest turbine) and those not exposed. For each site, the metric is computed ten years prior until five years after construction. When the comparison group is other residents within the same muniWe document the socioeconomics of wind power expansion in Sweden using two metrics.
Profinite groups with soluble centralisers
We show that a profinite group, in which the centralisers of non-trivial elements are metabelian, is either virtually pro-p or virtually soluble of derived length at most 4. We furthermore show that a prosoluble group, in which the centralisers of non-trivial elements are soluble of bounded derived length, is either soluble or virtually pro-p.
Generics as Expectations : Typicality and Diagnosticity
Generic statements play a crucial role in concept learning, communication and education. Despite many efforts, the semantics of generics remain a controversial issue, as they do not seem to fit our standard theories of meaning. In this article, we attempt to shed light on this problem by focusing on how these sentences function in reasoning. Drawing on a distinction between property and diagnostic

Introduction : Inequality-A Multifaceted Phenomenon
Inequality is ubiquitous in time and space. It is often measured simply as differences in incomes between various groups, but the phenomenon is more complex than so. Inequality is a many-faceted phenomenon that manifests itself in a number of ways. It shows up in a variety of contexts, for example gender, age, origin, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, class, religion and place. The presen
Evaluation of a self-monitoring protocol for assessing soot and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon exposure among chimney sweeps
Traditional methods for measuring chemical exposure have challenges in terms of obtaining sufficient data; therefore, improved methods for better assessing occupational exposure are needed. One possible approach to mitigate these challenges is to use self-monitoring methods such as sensors, diaries, or biomarkers. In the present study, a self-monitored method for measuring soot exposure, which inc
Developing an exercise intervention to minimise hip bone mineral density loss following traumatic lower limb amputation : a Delphi study
Objective To elicit expert opinion and gain consensus on specific exercise intervention parameters to minimise hip bone mineral density (BMD) loss following traumatic lower limb amputation. Methods In three Delphi rounds, statements were presented to a panel of 13 experts from six countries. Experts were identified through publications or clinical expertise. Round 1 involved participants rating th

A Lyapunov Approach to Stochastic Interaction Dynamics Over Large-Scale Networks
We study stochastic interaction network models whereby a finite population of agents, identified with the nodes of a graph, update their states in response to pairwise interactions with their neighbors as well as spontaneous mutations. These include the main epidemic models, such as the Susceptible-Infected -Susceptible, the Susceptible-Infected-Recovered, and the Susceptible-Infected-Recovered-Su
