Den konstnärliga verksamheten tas metodiskt i anspråTitle: The Twofold Rhythm of Duration in Opera. The Musical Dramaturgy of the Car Radio Opera "Cleansing of the Soul through Fun and Games". This thesis focuses on musical dramaturgy in operas with a story. I believe my own music is better when I write operas than instrumental music. The question is why? The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between story and music and see how

Monte Carlo simulation of two interpenetrating polymer networks: Structure, swelling, and mechanical properties

The swelling and mechanical properties of various interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) were studied. Six networks made from permutations of a moderately crosslinked polyelectrolyte network (ref), a moderately crosslinked neutral polymer network (net1), and a highly crosslinked polyelectrolyte network (net2) were first swollen in water and structural properties such as end-to-end chain lengths

Cyclometallated phenyl-pyridine palladium species. Monomeric complex formation with potentially bridging ligands

The cyclometallated dinuclear (2-phenyl-pyridine) palladium acetate and chloride [{PdCl(phpy)}(2)] and [{PdOAc(phpy)}(2)] were reacted with potentially bridging N- and S-donor ligands. The N,N-ligands bind with only one nitrogen and form monomeric products. The S,S-ligand binds in a chelate mode, also forming a monomeric complex. 3,3-Dimethyl glutarate, on the other hand, binds in a bridging mode.

Identification of IL12RB1 as a novel systemic sclerosis susceptibility locus

ObjectiveLumbar spinal stenosis is one of the most commonly diagnosed spinal disorders in older adults. Although the pathophysiology of the clinical syndrome is not well understood, a narrow central canal or intervertebral foramen is an essential or defining feature. The aim of the present study was to estimate the magnitude of genetic versus environmental influences on central lumbar spinal steno

Charge-Induced Patchy Attractions between Proteins

Static light scattering (SLS) combined with structure-based Monte Carlo (MC) simulations provide new insights into mechanisms behind anisotropic, attractive protein interactions. A nonmonotonic behavior of the osmotic second virial coefficient as a function of ionic strength is here shown to originate from a few charged amino acids forming an electrostatic attractive patch, highly directional and

Antimicrobials and Non-Healing Wounds. Evidence, controversies and suggestions-key messages

This article constitutes an extraction of key messages originally presented in the Document:Antimicrobials and Non-Healing Wounds. Evidence, controversies and suggestions written by the European Wound Management Association (EWMA), and originally published by the Journal of Wound Care in 2013.All sections are shortened and some not included. For further details please refer to in the original docu

Semantic Self-monitoring in Speech. Using Real-time Speech Exchange to Investigate the Use of Auditory Feedback for Self-comprehension

This thesis investigates speech production and self-monitoring by using a newly constructed Real-time Speech Exchange (RSE) system. This system makes it possible to covertly manipulate the auditory feedback that participants receive of their own voice. First a word or utterance made by the participant is recorded, and later in the test this recording is inserted into their auditory feedback with p

Quaternary of Norden

Nordic countries have experienced multiple glaciations and intervening interglacials during the last ca. 2.5-3 million years. Although evidence from Greenland and Iceland shows that ice sheets started to expand some time before 3 Ma, little is known about the glaciations and intervening interglacials older than the last Glacial Maximum due to repeated phases of glacial erosion and reworking. The e

Reducing non-collision injuries in special transportation services by enhanced safety culture

Previous research has pointed out that non-collision injuries occur among wheelchair users in Special Transportation Services (STS - a demand-responsive transport mode). The organization of such modes is also quite complex, involving both stakeholders and key personnel at different levels. Our objective was therefore to qualitatively explore the state of safety, as perceived and discussed within a

Access to high-quality oncology care across Europe

Oncology care in Europe is facing challenging circumstances. The report aims to derive evidence-based policy recommendations on how to optimize access to oncology care and how to achieve a high-quality standard that is both achievable and sustainable. The report looks at the full cancer patient pathway encompassing primary prevention, screening, diagnostics and treatment. Special emphasis is plac

Breast Cancer Screening With Tomosynthesis-Initial Experiences

Experiences gained so far using tomosynthesis for breast cancer screening will be reported. A short summary of results from preparatory studies will also be presented. The sensitivity and specificity of breast tomosynthesis (BT) will be compared with conventional two-dimensional digital mammography (DM) for breast cancer screening in a population-based study. Over 2000 women have been examined so

Intralymphatic allergen-specific immunotherapy: An effective and safe alternative treatment route for pollen-induced allergic rhinitis

Background: Allergen-specific immunotherapy is the only causative treatment of IgE-mediated allergic disorders. The most common administration route is subcutaneous, which may necessitate more than 50 allergen injections during 3 to 5 years. Recent evidence suggests that direct intralymphatic injections could yield faster beneficial results with considerably lower allergen doses and markedly reduc

Hypothalamic Involvement Predicts Cognitive Performance and Psychosocial Health in Long-term Survivors of Childhood Craniopharyngioma

Context: Hypothalamic damage caused by craniopharyngioma (CP) is associated with poor functional outcome. Objective: To assess cognitive function and quality of life in childhood-onset CP on hormonal replacement, including GH treatment. Design: A cross-sectional study with a median follow-up time of 20 years (1-40). Setting: Patients were recruited from the South Medical Region of Sweden. Particip

Formation and consumption of NO in H-2 + O-2 + N-2 flames doped with NO or NH3 at atmospheric pressure

Flat premixed burner-stabilized H-2 + O-2 + N-2 flames, neat or doped with 300-1000 ppm of NO or NH3, were studied experimentally using molecular-beam mass-spectrometry and simulated numerically. Spatial profiles of temperature and concentrations of stable species, H-2, O-2, H2O, NO, NH3, and of H and OH radicals obtained at atmospheric pressure in lean (phi = 0.47), near-stoichiometric (phi = 1.1

Speech is Silver; Silence is Golden

This paper experimentally investigates free-riding behavior on communication cost in a coordination game and finds strong indications of such free-riding. Firstly, the subjects wait for others to send a message when communication is costly, which does not happen when communication is costless. Secondly, the proportion of games where no communication or one-way communication takes place is much high

Evaluating national guidelines for the prophylactic treatment of respiratory syncytial virus in children with congenital heart disease

Aim: This is the first study to evaluate compliance with the 2003 Swedish national guidelines for prophylactic treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in children with congenital heart disease (CHD). We estimated the relative risk (RR) of children with CHD being hospitalised with a RSV infection, studied the extent to which RSV prophylactic treatment with palivizumab corresponded to the gui
