A 1.6-2.6GHz 29dBm Injection-Locked Power Amplifier with 64% peak PAE in 65nm CMOS

This paper presents a wideband CMOS power amplifier intended for cellular handset applications. The circuit exploits injection locking to achieve a power gain of 20.5dB from a single stage amplifier. The maximum output power of 29dBm, with a peak drain- and power-added-efficiency (PAE) of 66% and 64%, respectively, occurs at a center frequency of 2GHz with a 3V supply. A cross-coupled cascode topo

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm – Different Aspects on Screening

Ett kroppspulsåderbråck sitter vanligtvis i nivå med naveln, strax nedom kärlen som försörjer njurarnaAbstract Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a hideous life threatening disease that most often is asymptomatic until it ruptures. Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA) is a painful and serious predicament with a mortality of 80-90%. Half of the patients die before arriving to hospital, leaving family members in sorrow and shock. In Sweden about 700-1000 patients die each year due to rAAA, cor

Search for contact interactions and large extra dimensions in the dilepton channel using proton-proton collisions at root s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search is conducted for non-resonant new phenomena in dielectron and dimuon final states, originating from either contact interactions or large extra spatial dimensions. The LHC 2012 proton-proton collision dataset recorded by the ATLAS detector is used, corresponding to 20 fb(-1) at root s = 8 TeV. The dilepton invariant mass spectrum is a discriminating variable in both searches, with the cont

Water management in cities of the future using emission control strategies for priority hazardous substances

Cities of the future face challenges with respect to the quantity and quality of water resources, and multiple managerial options need to be considered in order to safeguard urban surface water quality. In a recently completed project on 'Source control options for reducing emissions of Priority Pollutants' (ScorePP), seven emission control strategies (ECSs) were developed and tested within a semi

Deletion of integrin α7 subunit does not aggravate the phenotype of laminin α2 chain-deficient mice.

Laminin-211 is a major constituent of the skeletal muscle basement membrane, exerting its biological functions by binding to cell surface receptors integrin α7β1 and dystroglycan (the latter is part of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex). The importance of these molecules for normal muscle function is underscored by the fact that their respective deficiency leads to different forms of muscular dy

Late termination of pregnancy: a comparison of obstetricians' experience in eight European countries

Objective To compare the experience and attitude of obstetricians in Europe towards late termination of pregnancy and the factors affecting their responses. Design Cluster sampling cross-sectional survey. All neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)-associated maternity units were recruited (census sampling) in Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Sweden. In France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, units w

Empowerment evaluation of a Swedish gender equity plan.

Background: Empowerment is essential for gender equity and health. The city of Malmö, Sweden, has formulated a development plan for gender equity integration (GEIDP). A 'Policy Empowerment Index' (PEI) was previously developed to assess the empowerment potential of policies. Objectives: To pilot-evaluate the GEIDP's potential for empowerment and to test the PEI for future policy evaluations. Desig

A pharmacodynamic comparison of 5 anti-platelet protocols in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary PCI.

Despite advances in anti-platelet treatments, there still exists an early increase in both ischemic as well as bleeding events following primary PCI in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Platelet inhibition data of different anti-platelet treatments in the acute phase of a myocardial infarction might offer some insight into these problems. The aim of this study was to evalua

Engineered Pyranose 2-Oxidase: Efficiently Turning Sugars into Electrical Energy

Due to the recent interest in enzymatic biofuel cells (BECs), sugar oxidizing enzymes other than the commonly used glucose oxidase are gaining more importance as possible bioelements of implantable microscale-devices, which can, for example, be used in biosensors and pacemakers. In this study we used rational and semi-rational protein design to improve the catalytic activity of the enzyme pyranose

Long-term Outcome and Prediction Models of Activities of Daily Living in Alzheimer Disease With Cholinesterase Inhibitor Treatment.

In untreated patients with Alzheimer disease (AD) the functional ability is gradually lost. What happens to the patients after continuous long-term cholinesterase inhibitor (ChEI) treatment is less investigated. The objective of this study was to describe the longitudinal functional outcome and analyze factors affecting the outcome in ChEI-treated patients. In an open, 3-year, nonrandomized, prosp

Demokratins pris och litteraturens värde : böcker, politik och marknad i ljuset av 2002 års svenska bokmomssänkning

The Price of Democracy and the Value of Literature : Books, Politics, and the Literary Market with Respect to the 2002 Reduction in VAT on Books in Sweden In 2002 the VAT (value added tax) on books in Sweden was reduced from 25% to 6 %. The reduction was effected in response to a cultural policy, whose aim was to ”improve the conditions for literature and reading” and ”stimulate a diversifed out

PARP1 Gene Knock-Out Increases Resistance to Retinal Degeneration without Affecting Retinal Function

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of inherited neurodegenerative diseases affecting photoreceptors and causing blindness in humans. Previously, excessive activation of enzymes belonging to the poly-ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) group was shown to be involved in photoreceptor degeneration in the human homologous rd1 mouse model for RP. Since there are at least 16 different PARP isoforms, we inves

Sexual behaviour among Ugandan university students: A gender perspective

Feminisation of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa is an important public health concern. Therefore, it is crucial that we understand the various risk factors that shape unsafe sexual behaviours among young people in Uganda. The overall aim of this thesis was to gain a deeper understanding of the various factors that have an association with risky sexual behaviours among Ugandan universit

Stromgren uvby photometry of the peculiar globular cluster NGC 2419

NGC 2419 is a peculiar Galactic globular cluster off set from the others in the size-luminosity diagram, and showing several chemical abundance anomalies. Here, we present Stromgren uvby photometry of the cluster. Using the gravity-and metallicity-sensitive c(1) and m(1) indices, we identify a sample of likely cluster members extending well beyond the formal tidal radius. The estimated contaminati
