A 3.5-6.8GHz wide-bandwidth DTC-assisted fractional-N all-digital PLL with a MASH ΔΣ TDC for low in-band phase noise
We present a digital-to-time converter (DTC)-assisted fractional-N wide-bandwidth all-digital PLL (ADPLL). It employs a MASH ΔΣ time-to-digital converter (TDC) to achieve low in-band phase noise, and a wide-tuning range digitally-controlled oscillator (DCO). Fabricated in 40nm CMOS, the ADPLL consumes 10.7 mW while outputting 1.73 to 3.38 GHz (after a ÷2 division) and achieves better than -109 dBc
Prevalence and Prognostic Implications of Bundle Branch Block in Comatose Survivors of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest
This study reports the prevalence and prognostic impact of right bundle branch block (RBBB) and left bundle branch block (LBBB) in the admission electrocardiogram (ECG) of comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). The present study is part of the predefined electrocardiographic substudy of the prospective randomized target temperature management trial, which found no benefit of

A simplified model to estimate the concentration of inorganic ions and heavy metals in rivers
This paper presents a model that uses only pH, alkalinity, and temperature to estimate the concentrations of major ions in rivers (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, HCO3 -, SO4 2-, Cl-, and NO3 -) together with the equilibrium concentrations of minor ions and heavy metals (Fe3+, Mn2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Al3+, Pb2+, and Zn2+). Mining operations have been increasing, which has led to changes in the pollution loads to r
Designing monoclonal antibody fragment-based affinity resins with high binding capacity by thiol-directed immobilisation and optimisation of pore/ligand size ratio
Monoclonal antibody (mAb) based affinity resins usually suffer from low binding capacity, most probably as a result of steric hindrance by the large 150 kDa size of the mAb and a random immobilisation approach. The present work investigates the influence of a variety of factors on dynamic binding capacity (DBC) such as pore/ligand size ratio, accessibility of ligand and ligand density. The effect
Convergence of chromogranin and amyloid metabolism in the brain.
Background: Much is unknown regarding the regulation of amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing in the human central nervous system. It has been hypothesized that amyloidogenic APP-processing preferentially occurs in the regulated secretory pathway of neurons. To test this hypothesis we looked for correlations of APP-derived molecules in CSF with chromogranin (Cg) derived peptides, representing
Beyond velocity and acceleration : Jerk, snap and higher derivatives
The higher derivatives of motion are rarely discussed in the teaching of classical mechanics of rigid bodies; nevertheless, we experience the effect not only of acceleration, but also of jerk and snap. In this paper we will discuss the third and higher order derivatives of displacement with respect to time, using the trampolines and theme park roller coasters to illustrate this concept. We will al
Focus on the impact of climate change on wetland ecosystems and carbon dynamics
The renewed growth in atmospheric methane (CH4) since 2007 after a decade of stabilization has drawn much attention to its causes and future trends. Wetlands are the single largest source of atmospheric CH4. Understanding wetland ecosystems and carbon dynamics is critical to the estimation of global CH4 and carbon budgets. After approximately 7 years of CH4 related research following the renewed g
Continuous-Time Model Identification of Time-Varying Systems Using Non-Uniformly Sampled Data
This contribution reviews theory, algorithms, and validation results for system identification of continuous-time models from finite non-uniformly sampled input-output sequences. The algorithms developed are autoregressive methods, and methods of stochastic realization adapted to the continuous-time context. The resulting model can be decomposed into an input-output model and a stochastic innovati
Benchmarking Geant4 for spallation neutron source calculations
Geant4 is becoming increasingly used for radiation transport simulations of spallation neutron sources and related components. Historically, the code has seen little usage in this field and it is of general interest to investigate the suitability of Geant4 for such applications. For this purpose, we carried out Geant4 calculations based on simple spallation source geometries and also with the the
MeV Neutron Production from Thermal Neutron Capture in 6Li Simulated with Geant4
Various Li compounds are commonly used at neutron facilities as neutron absorbers. These compounds provide one of the highest ratios of neutron attenuation to y- ray production. Unfortunately, the usage of these compounds can also give rise to fast neutron emission with energies up to almost 16 MeV. Historically, some details in this fast neutron production mechanism can be absent from some modeli
Compact chopper spectrometers for pulsed sources
We report on the opportunities for direct geometry chopper spectrometers (DGCS) by polychromatic illumination of the sample. At pulsed sources the use of multiple initial neutron energies appears naturally, if the repetition rate of chopper in front of the sample is larger than the repetition rate of the source. As a consequence, a large part of the spectrum is measured redundantly with variable e
