The cost per sample varies considerably depending on sample size, lithology and necessary further treatment of the residues. Please contact us for an estimate. The sample residues will be delivered in dry state and sub-divided into different fractions, normally one light and one heavy fraction (the latter of which contains phosphatic fossils). As a rule our finest sieve is 63 um. If you would like

The term exchange student implies that your home university has a formal agreement to exchange students with Lund University. The agreement can be general/central and open to all the university's students or limited to a specific department or faculty. In either case you must first apply for the exchange at your home university; either through your central International Office or through an intern

SNG is an organization run entirely by students at INES (Physical Geography department) and the Geology Department. It represents students in the decision-making boards of the two departments and at the Faculty of Science (LUNA). This provides students an opportunity to give feedback about their education, comment on new ideas and suggest ways to make the quality of education even better. It also

The 40Ar/39Ar method is a tremendously versatile and powerful geochronometer which has been used to date K-bearing rocks and minerals as young as a few 10’s of thousands of years to the oldest rocks on Earth. Argon for 40Ar/39Ar analysis can be released either by step-heating a sample (single grain or rock aggregate) using a furnace or a defocused laser and by in-situ Laser Ablation of a small ≥ 2

Efficient techniques for mineral separation are important in almost all geochronological studies. From year 2000, we have used the so called “water-based technique (pdf, new tab)” for separation of baddeleyite (and zircon). Baddeleyite is a reliable geochronometer for dating the crystallization of mafic and other silica-undersaturated rocks. The technique is based on the observation that small gra

1. Circa 0,5 kg sample is sawed in 1-cm thick slices using an ordinary slab saw. 2. After washing and drying, the slices are reduced in size to cm-large pieces by using a small sledge hammer. 3. In order to get a very fine-grained sample (almost powder), we use a small swing mill. 4. After adding some water, the sample is loaded in ca. 50 g portions on a Wilfley-Holman 700 water-shaking tab

Palaeomagnetic and mineral magnetic data are used in a wide variety of Earth science disciplines. Reconstructions of the direction and intensity of the Earth's geomagnetic field can be produced from studies of igneous rocks, sediments and ceramic artefacts. These reconstructions can be used to (i) correlate and date geological archives and (ii) help us understand how the geomagnetic field is gener
