High-spin intruder band in In-107

High-spin states in the neutron-deficient nucleus In-107 were studied via the Ni-58(Cr-52,3p) reaction. In-beam gamma rays were measured using the JUROGAM detector array. A rotational cascade consisting of ten gamma-ray transitions, which decays to the 19/2(+) level at 2.002 MeV, was observed. The band exhibits the features typical for smooth terminating bands that also appear in rotational bands

Wheat Gluten Polymer Structures: The Impact of Genotype, Environment, and Processing on Their Functionality in Various Applications

For a number of applications, gluten protein polymer structures are of the highest importance in determining end-use properties. The present article focuses on gluten protein structures in the wheat grain, genotype- and environment-related changes, protein structures in various applications, and their impact on quality. Protein structures in mature wheat grain or flour are strongly related to end-

Multi-institutional Study of Symptomatic Deep Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism in Prostate Cancer Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic or Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy

OBJECTIVES: The true incidence of symptomatic deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is unknown. Our aim was to determine the incidence of symptomatic DVT and PE and the risk factors for these complications. METHODS: Fourteen surgeons from 13 referral institutions from both Europe and the United States provided retrospecti

Local environment overrides regional climate influence on regime shift in a north temperate lake

Regime shifts in shallow lakes are typically characterized by submerged macrophyte (clear water regime) or phytoplankton (turbid regime) dominance. Climate warming is expected to affect water quality and facilitate turbidity in lakes, but we may also expect synergistic effects on organisms' interactions from climate and local specific dynamics in lakes. We here examined long-term changes in phytop

A cohort study of sex differences and prognostic biomarkers in colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common forms of cancer worldwide, with an annual incidence of more than 1 million cases. Despite advancements in the management of CRC, mortality remains high. Accumulating evidence indicates that CRC is a heterogeneous disease, which affects outcome beyond what can be predicted by disease stage and other conventional prognostic factors. Thus, there is a

C-60 submonolayers on the Si(111)-(7 x 7) surface: Does a mixture of physisorbed and chemisorbed states exist?

We have carried out a combined X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy(UPS), and scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) study of the C-60-Si(1 1 1) interaction where the XPS/UPS spectrometer and STM are integrated on a single UHV system. This enables a direct comparison of the XPS/UPS spectra with the STM data and eliminates any uncertainty in C-60 coverage mea

Nitrosamines and Heme Iron and Risk of Prostate Cancer in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition

Background: The evidence about nitrosamines and heme iron intake and cancer risk is limited, despite the biologic plausibility of the hypothesis that these factors might increase cancer risk. We investigated the association between dietary nitrosamines and heme iron and the risk of prostate cancer among participants of European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). Methods: D

Improved modeling and bounds for NQR spectroscopy signals

Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) is a method of de- tection and unique characterization of compounds containing quadrupolar nuclei, commonly found in many forms of ex- plosives, narcotics, and medicines. Typically, multi-pulse sequences are used to acquire the NQR signal, allowing the resulting signal to be well modeled as a sum of exponentially damped sinusoidal echoes. In this paper, we improv

Systematic trends in beta-delayed particle emitting nuclei: The case of beta p alpha emission from Mg-21

We have observed beta(+)-delayed alpha and p alpha emission from the proton-rich nucleus Mg-21 produced at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The assignments were cross-checked with a time distribution analysis. This is the third identified case of beta p alpha emission. We discuss the systematic of beta-delayed particle emission decays, show that our observed decays fit naturally into the existing patt

First Trimester Urine and Serum Metabolomics for Prediction of Preeclampsia and Gestational Hypertension: A Prospective Screening Study.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, including preeclampsia, are major contributors to maternal morbidity. The goal of this study was to evaluate the potential of metabolomics to predict preeclampsia and gestational hypertension from urine and serum samples in early pregnancy, and elucidate the metabolic changes related to the diseases. Metabolic profiles were obtained by nuclear magnetic resonanc

Structural and magnetic properties of MnAs/GaAs ferromagnetic semiconductor nanocomposite material

Self-organized (Ga,Mn)As nanoclusters, embedded in GaAs and formed during thermal annealing of Ga1-xMnxAs layer at 500 degrees C or 600 degrees C, were studied using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM). We found that 10-20 nm large NiAs-type hexagonal MnAs nanocrystals gave magnetic contrast in MFM images, whereas smaller zinc-blende nanoinclusions were not v

Prospects for Evidence-Based L2 Chinese Teaching Practice in Sweden: A Progression Sequence Analysis of Grammatical Items in Chinese Textbooks

This study was motivated by the current vulnerable status of Chinese taught as a second language in Swedish gymnasium education, calling for further knowledge on how theories on second language (L2) acquisition can benefit instruction on L2 Chinese. Since language textbooks often constitute the curriculum in Swedish classrooms, two Chinese textbooks were targeted for analysis in terms of the seque

Public Participation in Environmental Policymaking: A Case Study of the German Energiewende

The climate crisis urges countries around the globe to end their national energy systems’ dependencies on fossil fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The development of renewable energy sources and its increasing physical interventions into the living space of citizens lead to growing public protests that pose a threat to planned energy infrastructure projects. In response to public protests,

"Helt plötsligt var det första januari och 'oj, nu har vi en ny lag att förhålla oss till'" Beslutsfattares resonemang om barnkonventionens inkorporering - en kvalitativ studie.

The aim of this study was to create an understanding of how decision makers within social services’ children and youth work resonate regarding the incorporation of the Children’s Rights Convention (CRC). The study is based on six qualitative interviews with professional social workers in different parts of Sweden. Theories within sociology of law were applied in the analysis of the results to illu

FrågeställningarSince ancient times child labor has been found throughout the whole world. Legislation and rules regarding child labor have emerged gradually and in this essay I want to investigate how the regulation of child labor in Sweden are today. And how the development has been during two centuries. My two question of issues are under what conditions can children under the age of 18 gain employment in Swed
