Approximate clustering of fingerprint vectors with missing values
We study the problem of clustering fingerprints with at most p missing values (CMV (p) for short) naturally arising in oligonucleotide fingerprinting, which is an efficient method for characterizing DNA clone libraries. We show that already CMV(2) is NP-hard. We also show that a greedy algorithm yields a min(1 + ln n, 2+pln l) approximation for CMV(p), and can be implemented to run in O(nl2p) time.
Restriction in social participation and lower life satisfaction among fractured in pain Results from the population study "Good Aging in Skåne"
The aim of this study was to describe social participation expressed as accomplished ordinary activities, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and life satisfaction (LS), among elderly men and women with osteoporosis-related fractures with and without pain, compared to non-fractured controls. The study was a population-based case–control study conducted at a university hospital, including 408 su

Melt-compounded salt-containing poly(ethylene oxide)/clay nanocomposites for polymer electrolyte membranes
The present study demonstrates the use of a simple and versatile melt-compounding route to prepare NaClO4-containing poly(ethylene oxide) PEO/clay nanocomposites combining excellent mechanical properties with a competitive level of the ionic conductivity. The nanostructure and the resulting thermal, mechanical and conductive properties of the salt-containing PEO/clay nanocomposites were found to b
Bone health and cardiovascular risk in hypopituitary patients on complete hormone replacement, including GH
Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is associated with decreased bone mineral density (BMD). Low BMD is correlated to increased fracture risk. There are no studies on fracture risk in GHD patients on GH therapy and no studies on BMD in adults with childhood onset (CO) craniopharyngioma (CP) on GH therapy. We have shown a doubled fracture incidence in CO GHD women and decreased incidence of fractures i
Signatures of superfluidity in dilute fermi gases near a Feshbach resonance
We present a brief account of the most salient properties of vortices in dilute atomic Fermi superfluids near a Feshbach resonance.
Oral health and nutritional status in a group of geriatric rehabilitation patients
The aims of this study were to evaluate the oral health status and nutritional status in a group of geriatric rehabilitation patients, and to analyse the relationship between these two parameters. Nurses at the ward performed structured assessments of oral and nutritional status using the Revised Oral Assessment Guide and the Subjective Global Assessment form in 223 newly admitted patients. Most o
Are regional variations in ischaemic heart disease related to differences in coronary risk factors? The project 'myocardial infarction in mid-Sweden'
In a previous report, a large regional variation was reported in total mortality and mortality rate from ischaemic heart disease (IHD) in mid-Sweden. In this report, IHD prevalence and risk factor data are presented. A postal questionnaire was sent out to a random sample of men aged 45-64 years in each of 40 communities. 14,675 men (88%) responded. Based on a validity study, IHD cases were defined

Vattenavvisande fasadimpregnering : alkalikänslighet
I föreliggande rapport redovisas en studie där en ny provningsmetod utarbetats för att prova alkalibeständigheten hos vattenavvisande preparat för fasadimpregnering.
Cyclic peptides containing a δ-sugar amino acid—synthesis and evaluation as artificial receptors
An Fmoc-protected δ-sugar amino acid, prepared by oxidation of a glucosamine derivative, was coupled to three different tripeptide tert-butyl esters (H-Tyr-Tyr-Tyr-OtBu, H-Tyr-Glu(OBzl)-Tyr-OtBu and H-Tyr-Arg(Mtr)-Tyr-OtBu) and the resulting sugar amino acid/amino acid hybrids were transformed into dimers that were subsequently cyclized to give three C2-symmetric macrocycles. The macrocycles were
Topology of the membrane-associated hepatitis C virus protein NS4B
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) belongs to the Hepacivirus genus in the Flaviviridae family. Among the least known viral proteins in this family is the nonstructural protein NS4B, which has been suggested to be a part of the replication complex. Hydrophobicity plots indicate a common profile among the NS4B proteins from different members of the Flaviviridae family, suggesting a common function. In order t
Usefulness of spoligotyping To discriminate IS6110 low-copy-number Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains cultured in Denmark
Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains cultured in Denmark have been analyzed by IS6110 restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) on a routine basis from 1992 and onwards. Due to the influx of immigrants with tuberculosis, the number of strains harboring only one to five copies of IS6110 has increased steadily. Since the discriminatory power of IS6110 fingerprinting for such strains is p

Lack of Reactive Oxygen Species Breaks T Cell Tolerance to Collagen Type II and Allows Development of Arthritis in Mice.
The view on reactive oxygen species (ROS) in inflammation is currently shifting from being considered damaging toward having a more complex role in regulating inflammatory reactions. We recently demonstrated a role of ROS in regulation of animal models for the autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis. Low levels of ROS production, due to a mutation in the Ncf1 gene coding for the Ncf1 (alias p47pho
