Ultrasound measurement of the fetal cerebral ventricles: a prospective, consecutive study
Real-time ultrasound was used in 654 consecutive pregnancies to obtain standard growth parameters for the fetal brain. Measurement of the width of the lateral ventricle (LVW) and hemisphere and their relationships to menstrual age, biparietal diameter, and birth weight were determined. The growth of the LVW was to a great extent independent of birth weight but dependent on menstrual age. Thirteen
Effect of different radiation fractionation schedules on metastases from an oesophageal carcinoma
Subcutaneous metastases from an oesophageal carcinoma were irradiated using different schedules. The results have to be evaluated with greatest caution but indicate that with the same CRE value, few fractions caused less skin reactions than several, and the size of the shoulder of the cell survival curve was of the order of 0.7 Gy.
A glucose dehydrogenase biosensor as an additional signal amplification step in an enzyme-flow immunoassay.
Both the antibody affinity and the detectability of the label are essential in deciding the final characteristics of a heterogeneous immunoassay. This paper describes an approach to obtain a supplementary enhancement of the signal generated by using an enzyme label, e.g., by including the product of the enzymatic reaction in an additional amplification cycle during the detection step performed wit
Biogeography of the lichen family Parmeliaceae in the Nordic countries with taxonomic remarks
The Parmeliaceae flora of the Nordic area is reviewed on the basis of literature, database, and herbarium sources. A list of 40 genera and 153 species in current use, with comments on their distribution and taxonomic remarks on some of the species, is presented.
Pre-pregnancy risk factors of small-for-gestational-age births and perinatal mortality
The Scandinavian part of the NICHD study of successive small-for-gestational-age (SGA) births included 5722 parous women from Trondheim and Bergen (in Norway) and Uppsala (in Sweden). Study enrollment took place from January 1986 through March 1988. The aim of the main study was to investigate factors associated with inhibited intrauterine growth. This paper reports on the fetal, perinatal, and ne
Developing m-Services; lesson learned from a developers Perspective
In recent years the Swedish Police Force (SPF) have encountered greater demands on availability and 24/7 services when dealing with errands that are regarded as low priority compared to regular police work, e.g. collecting tips from the public. One attempt to meet these increasing demands was the development of a mobile communications platform that allowed the public to communicate easily with the

Applications of Bayesian Econometrics to Financial Economics
Popular Abstract in Swedish Denna doktorsavhandling består av fyra fristående artiklar. What these papers have in common is that Bayesian Econometrics, in combination with Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods, is applied to study various problems in financial economics. The first two papers are further related in that they both deal with portfolio selection and estimation risk, as are the last two papers in that they both deal with
Quantitative analysis of rat Ig (sub) classes binding to cell surface antigens
An indirect 125I-labeled protein A assay for detection of cell surface-bound rat immunoglobulins is presented. The assay is quantitative and rapid and detects as little as 1 ng of cell surface-bound Ig. It discriminates between antibodies belonging to different IgG subclasses, IgM and IgA. We describe the production and specificity control of the reagents used and show that the test can be used fo
Prevention of postoperative peritoneal adhesions: Effects of lysozyme, polylysine and polyglutamate versus hyaluronic acid
Objective. Intraperitoneal adhesions are an important cause of postoperative intestinal obstruction, abdominal discomfort and infertility. In the present study we hypothesized that a combination of polypeptides with different surface properties, resulting in fine disperse low-soluble complexes, could be of benefit in the prevention of abdominal adhesions. Material and methods. Various polypeptides
Ultrafast carotenoid band shifts: Experiment and theory
The ultrafast carotenoid band shift upon excitation of nearby bacteriochlorophyll molecules was studied in three different light harvesting complexes from purple bacteria. The results were analyzed in terms of changes in local electric field of the carotenoids. Time dependent density functional theory calculations based on known and model structures led to good agreement with experimental results,
Cost-analyzes based on a prospective, randomized study comparing laparoscopic colposuspension with a tension-free vaginal tape procedure.
Background. The aim of this study was to compare laparoscopic colposuspension with tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) in terms of costs to the county. Methods. In a prospective, randomized study, we approached 270 consecutive women presenting for evaluation of stress urinary incontinence symptoms at one university hospital. Preoperatively, and at 1-year follow-up, the women underwent urodynamic eval
Ultra short-loop feedback control of thyrotropin secretion
Evidence is accumulating that pituitary hormone secretion is not only regulated by feedback from hormones produced in the target organs (long feedback) on the pituitary and the hypothalamus (feedforward), but also by a feedback of the hypophyseal hormones at the hypothalamic (short feedback) and the pituitary (ultra-short feedback) level. Inhibition of thyrotropin (TSH) and MSH secretion by pituit

The role of molecular polarity in cluster local structure studied by photoelectron spectroscopy
We have studied the spatial structure and electronic levels of clusters of the molecule CH3Br to investigate the effects of molecular polarity on these properties. Analysis of the core level photoclectron spectra of initially neutral CH3Br clusters shows that the C 1 s(-1) state has a 30% larger binding energy shift between free molecules and clusters than the Br 3d(-1) state. This difference is a
JJGEN: A flexible program for generating lists of j j-coupled configuration state functions
The success of large scale relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations for atomic systems rely on judiciously chosen configuration expansions. Dependent on the atomic system as well as on the studied properties, various correlation effects need to be considered. Based on the active set approach, this program allows the user to generate general lists of j j-coupled configuration

A hedging point strategy - balancing effluent quality, economy and robustness in the control of wastewater treatment plants
An operational space map is an efficient tool to compare a large number of operational strategies to find an optimal choice of setpoints based on a multicriterion. Typically, such a multicriterion includes a weighted sum of cost of operation and effluent quality. Due to the relative high cost of aeration such a definition of optimality result in a relatively high fraction of the effluent total nit
Transient waves from internal sources in non-stationary media - Numerical implementation
In this paper, the focus is on numerical results from calculations of scattered direct waves, originating from internal sources in non-stationary, dispersive, stratified media. The mathematical starting point is a general, inhomogeneous, linear, first order, 2 × 2 system of equations. Particular solutions are obtained, as integrals of waves from point sources distributed inside the scattering medi
