About the research

My research interests include nationalism, historical culture, and the instrumental use of history in the former Kresy Wschodnie, the border regions which today make up Western Belarus, Western Ukraine, and parts of Lithuania. A primary focal point are memories of 20th century political violence and ideological history writing in the post-Soviet successor states and their overseas diasporas. My book The Rise and Fall of Belarusian Nationalism, 1906-1931 appeared in January 2015 with the University of Pittsburgh Press. I am currently working on a monograph on Ukrainian long-distance nationalism during the Cold War.
