Beskrivning

Are you interested in the development of Swedish politics and Swedish political life in the 20th and 21st centuries? Learn more on topics such as: Swedish political parties; the founding of the National State and democratic developments; the politics of gender policies and political predictions for 21st century Sweden.

Description

The course provides an introduction to Swedish politics. The political system in general, the constitution, the government and the political parties are discussed in a historical as well as in a contemporary perspective. Sweden’s role as a small country in a global context, both as a member of the European Union and the United Nations, is highlighted. Swedish attributes such as “The Swedish Model” and the policy of neutrality are analysed in a historical perspective as well as with reference to the present situation. Special attention is given to the Swedish gender model, refugee politics and ethnic pluralism.

Further information

The course is given in our humanities and theology centre, LUX. This offers an exciting campus environment with a vibrant student life. Lund University has one of Sweden’s oldest and largest research library, and the library at LUX is one of 26 libraries within this network.

The course is given as a part-time course once a year, during the spring semester (day-time). The course is a free-standing course for beginners. It can be included in a first or second-cycle degree.

International student?

Make your application in the First Admission Round at universityadmissions.se.

Application period October–January for autumn semester and June–August for spring semester.

First or Second Admission Round?

All international students are encouraged to apply to the First admission round. This round takes place many months before the start of a semester and gives students the time they need to pay their tuition fees, apply for and receive their residence permit (if required), find housing, etc.

The Second admission round is an alternative for students from EU/EEA countries as they do not need a residence permit. Non-EU/EEA students will most likely not have enough time to obtain their permit before the start of the semester. However, even EU/EEA students are advised to apply during the First admission round, as some programmes can be applied for only in the January round. Also, this provides applicants with an admission decision much earlier, which is helpful in making decisions about their studies.
